Toreado Red- Does yours chip easy too ?

Man , I want to cry. Just got back from a road trip, Columbus, Ohio to Orlando and back again. The front of the car has what looks like 100 chip marks the size of pin heads.

Every time I turn around, being extremely careful at all time, I get some chip in the paint. It is rediculous that a 40K + dollar car would be so fragile from a paint standpoint.

Wondered if any of you out there have the same experiences.. not sure what to do other than start to save my $$$ and take it to the body shop and get it repainted and touched up.

mine's the same way. i don't think it matters what color it is.

RE: Toreado Red- Does yours chip easy too ?

Know how you feel! I've never seen so much junk flying up in the air from cars and trucks. I try to keep plenty of space between my Mark and what's in front of me, especially trucks.
At the carwash I manage everybody seems to have the same problem with nicks and chipping. Don't think there's any way to resolve it........:'(

durring the school year, I drive my car almost 100 miles a day and half of it is at abou 85 mph. I think Im going to have the whole front end of my car repainted instead of just the LSC parts, it is so bad.

I had mine painted a month ago. By the time i got to carlisle, it was already sandblasted. Unless you can come up with some way to protect it without making it look like crap, there's no point in getting it painted.

For giggles, look around car lots for dark green late models. The worst IMO, as it highlights each chip in a contrasting whitish color(wax?).

Given the way the front of mine is getting, I am seriously thinking of getting a bra for mine. I think that I can get away with a black bra on a black car. I had one on my Black Cougar and it looked pretty good.

But, I don't think that a black bra would compliment a Red Mark very well.

Now, if someone could do one in red leather, that might be xexy...

My car has a number of chips and dings. Impossible to keep it pristine when you drive it 66 miles a day (to work and back) - especially on St. Louis highways.

I had my front bumper cover repainted a couple weeks before WFC so it'd look good for the show. Already chipped by the time I got there.

I use that liquid quick detail wax stuff and apply very generous amounts with one of those synthetic sponges, rubbing it in vigorously and it goes into all the nooks and crannies and then buff real good. It is very surprising to me how well this treatment conceals but the bumper comes back to looking like it’s diseased again pretty quick. Like after one car washing. I have used pledge the same way for this problem too and it works even better as far as concealing but much shorter duration. I stick to the liquid wax. And for me, using the quick detail stuff on the bumper cover is a must after a regular wax, to get all the leftover wax out that is stuck in all the pits and making them stand out even more.

What about those clear film products (invisible bras)? Anyone tried them? Here's one place that has kits for our cars:

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on what you own, second gens are covered way better than first gens, but even on those there is nothing for the grill or headlight lenses.

RE: Toreado Red- Does yours chip easy too ?

I think the only way to keep the front looking pristine is to get one of those clear bras installed after repainting. A friend recently had one put on his Mercedes and I swear I couldn't see where the bra left off, it was very well done. When I get Moose's nose repainted I'm getting one installed!

Weird! I just went out and checked mine, and at over 58K miles, there are virtually NO chips on the hood, grill, or any top/front parts of the bumper!! I even polished it off to be sure. The only place I have a few little pin-prick chips is on the lower portions of the bumper. And that's even after I made a 4K mile trip to Colo. and back last summer.

The only thing I can think of is that here in CA they never sand or salt the roads, and there's not really any loose sand or dirt to be kicked up anywhere around here. 'Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Mine ('94 Deep Jewel Green) is just horrible...and every time I come back from another trip to the city (NYC) there is like 50 new chips.

For luck there is a paint job coming in the next 12 months :)

Marcus.

RE: Toreado Red- Does yours chip easy too ?

John, consider yourself lucky. I believe you're right however, no salt, sand, cinders or gravel means no chips. Back in the NE we unfortunately are plaqued with it. I didn't mean to pick on your color(others are bad too), it just seems to me that the dark green just highlights each chip no matter how small. Nordic Blue certainly isn't immune though.:(

RE: Toreado Red- Does yours chip easy too ?

I have a bra I use just for road trips (worked out great for Carlisle). I don't leave it on every day, though - I only drive 6 miles each way to work, and only on nice days in the summer.

I also found some tape-like stuff called Bodyguard at Meijer that can be applied anywhere on the car. I use this behind each wheel on the sides of the car, for instant tar removal.
