Torque converter opinion...........

Now this post isn't intended to offend anybody. I'm pretty sure I'm going with a converter from Lonnie, but what's your opinion on this converter? It also says they give a tccoa member discount.

I know Alan and have one of his 9.5" billet converters. He also did the race-prepped tranny I now have. IMHO his work is top shelf. One of the reasons I went with him is I can drive to his shop.

The one pictured isn't the small 9"(or 11"?) converter though...I'm assuming its not the one you're buying?

New one on top...original size on bottom.

Not looking to start a flame war which will more than likely result from my post but my personal experience with that person/company was far from professional. John you may have made out with your purchase but he didn't back me or my customer when his TCs failed right from the first test run. Mine and other's experiences have been posted on other sites. My torque converters are fully backed by my builders and me. I nor my builders will leave you with a failed TC.

I have a sale also going on with a custom upgraded Marauder / Mach 1 TC by the way, besides the several other choices. http://www.blueovalchips.com/index.php?action=item&id=95&prevaction=category&previd=14&prevstart=0

Thanks for the link Lonnie. That one you posted is definitely closer to my price range. :D

Thanks for talking to me on the phone Lonnie. I have decided to officially buy the converter and tune from you. Guys, You need to jump on this converter sale!!! :D

No problem, it's always easier when you call than depend on me to find your PM. Emails work but even when I'm caught up on tuning and building I fall behind since I get so many each day. Most are not simple yes or no questions so I end up spending time researching or it's a lot of tech. I'm really behind now with the move going on also.

You asked what the highest possible stall would be and I said 3000. That's with the stall upgrade. There are no changes in the stator, turbine and so on with these, they remain stock to keep the cost down. So the max stall with the factory unit will be 2700 - 2800, just slightly more than all the standard 11.25 factory TCs. With the stall upgrade I have the builder change the angle of the blades slightly to give you another 300 rpm or so.

If you wanted more stall you would better off with a fully custom build or something like my 10 inch units.

That is correct

Pretty much as with most performance parts, you get what you pay for. Not to take anything away from the Marauder TC or this upgraded one I'm selling, these are quality units exceeding any standard 11.25. But if you are looking for a high stall with a budget price you will end up with a POC more times than not. They are out there and basically you end up with a very inefficient unit since all they do is chop up the internals to get you that higher stall. The is cheap for them to do and how they are able to sell them at the low cost. Where to do it right quality parts need to be installed.
