Torque Converter

Have a Question about a Torque Converter. My transmition started slipping the friday before Christmas. I've been working out of town a lot so It's been used only a few times since then. I have the trans torn down now and getting ready to put it together this weekend. I have been thinking about waiting to put it in and getting a higher stall converter. I have found them in 1800, 2300 and 3000 RPM stall.
It's a street car so the 3000 is out. I'm wondering if anyone is using something like this only on the street and likes it. If I was going to race it I would go high but I'm not doing that, it's just for my own fun. It will have a 3.25 posi. when it goes back together. I had bought 3.73's but I think the truck I bought when the Mark went down needs them worse.

RE: Torque Converter

Stock is 2000 or so.

Go with 3000-3500.

My car is a street car and i have a 3200 stall. it drives fine.

Go with the big stall. Especially if you're only going to have a 3.27 gear in there.

RE: Torque Converter

I have a 3000 stall converter. You have to give it a bit more gas to get the car going from a stop but it's liveable.

Bear in mind that I still have stock gears, so I can't comment on how a car with a different rear will behave.

RE: Torque Converter

I've got a 3000 stall with stock gears also.

I drive it to work everyday, 50 miles round trip. Drives very comfortably.

RE: Torque Converter

I've got a 3000 stall and 3.73 gears. I think it makes my Mark more streetable. In bumper-to-bumper traffic it creeps forward so slowly that you don't have to use the brakes very often. When backing up it moves slowly so you don't have to ride the brakes. This is my first high-stall converter and I like it a lot.

RE: Torque Converter

I'm glad that this was posted by someone, I am getting ready to order my tranny from Super Coupe Performance tommorow and was thinking the 3000 would be too high for me for the street with 4:10's. I was told that the stock is around 1800, so its not that big of a jump. I plan to keep doing highway with mine also after the swap. I was assuming it to be around 800 or so, which is not the case.

RE: Torque Converter

As far as stock stall speed.....my brake torque seems to be 2100-2200, but have seen it flash to 2600-2800 in the past.
