Town Car - 2003

RE: Town Car - 2003

Rob, I have more than just a passing interest in Limos. I, however am more into the once upon a time, Factory Limousines. Those are the ones that actually emerged out of the plant as a finished limousine. I used to belong to a limousine club, but after a while, dropped out.

Can you name the LAST factory-made limo by year & make and tell me how many were produced for that final year? The year < hint > was 1988.

A friend of mine had a 1962 Imperial LeBaron Limo, made in Italy by Chrysler. He also has Pearl S. Buck's 1956 black Imperial Limo.

I think the rarest limo I have ever seen was a 1990-something Olds Delta 88. The front doors were stock sedan and the rear doors were from same model/year car BUT a 2-door coupe's doors turned backward & put on the oppisite side. Sound bad....Looked GREAT! Made by some company in Wi.

Oh, last Limo from Factory?
1988 Cadillac Series 75 Sedan/Limo ..... 99 were made

Well sandy Ford is in production build of the Navigator. Built at a ford site..... Did you know that? and actually since 1999 Fords "L" series is considered a limousine by most insurance companies...so I'm not a history buff.. however the industry today is out of control.... I also had the pleasure to have a '57 bel-air at my shop a couple of weeks ago andit was a factory built limo. great workmanship...Just not as luxurious.

Somebodies pullin' your leg!

Chevrolet never made a "Factory Limousine" at the Bel-Air Plant in 1955/6/7. Only Favtory made Limos were Cadillacs. Ford did have a tie in with Lehman-Peterson and a working partnership, but even they were shipped as incomplete vehicles to Lehman Petersen for complete conversion. Likewise, the Imperials to Ghia in Turin Italy, and later to Armbruster-Stageway in Arkansas.

I have seen in magazines examples of 1957 Chevrolets as limosines. They were marketed as "Airport Cars," a role that extended Chevrolet Suburbans have taken on recently.

Thes "Airport Cars" were made by Stageway. They are period, but aftermarket. They are interesting cars.

So, I thought maybe I had accidentally stated the entire length of the car, but 312" would be the approximate length of the stretch as the total length of the car was 44 feet or 528". I will however note that the car did have two sets of rear wheels. I'm not sure if that makes a difference to you of not... In all honesty, I’m merely going by what the driver of the car told me, his car was about twice as long as mine, and I was driving a 120” that night. If you’re interested I can give you a better description of the car.

I was actually coming at this topic from the side of either FACTORY MADE Limousines, that being cars that rolled off the assembly line, ready to go into service, *OR* cars that were "purpose-built" as incomplete (or KDC {For Knocked Down & Created) units for direct shipment to the conversion company, with a mfg'r / converter partnership. As seen from Alexander's post, persons can convert absolutely anything into a "limo" from a VW Beetle to a Hummer.
The Limousine Society that I had belonged to only recornizes these two aforementioned situations.

Sandy, I sure hope you don't post your photos here first. You should post them at the forum that you are so immersed in. Did you get any pics this weekend?

No. I spent all day today down at Princeton, with Karen visiting with Matt. Well, actually celebrating. He was sworn in to the Frat of his choice, is involved in raising money for the Frat and from Jan 1 to last Friday is the 30th highest achieving student in his Freshamn class, GPA-wise. He's a double major carring a double load with an A- average. We were there all day today, and I am very tired. On Sunday we packed stuff to take - No pict yet, soon....very soon, probably will take them tomorrow. Matt has not even seen it - yet, as we took back his Jeep, which we have had for 3 weeks, and I drove the Caddy, as it needed a good 105 mile run....

Matt wants more than anything in the world to be rich. Really rich! He says he will do anything needed to achieve that, thru proper means. He HATES having us pay for him. He even has a job, working for campus security, manning the switchboard. $82.00 @ week, Hey, he says, it's gas & snack mony. This summer he is coming home, but taking add'l. course at a local college to gain extra credits and "preview" courses for next September's courses, so he can "hit the ground running" ~ He wants to be a financial advisor with a master's in accounting with a big corp. Bristol Myers Squibb or Revlon or Ciba Gigey - someplace like that. He took Mom & Dad out to lunch & paid using the $$ he earned. He was glowing with pride. It was all good.
We could only have one. We wanted two. God blessed us with a great one. I thank HIM daily. We are saddened that all 4 of our parents are not here to enjoy.
