Is there a website dedicated to the towncar, like this is to the Mark VIII? (yes, I know there are links in here for other lincolns, but this website is 99.9% for the Mark VIII)

I'm looking for some info on a 1997 towncar.

RE: towncar website

I am active on
http://www.lincolntowncar.org
It's an informative place with like minded people. Not too busy right now, but alot of good info in the archives.
If you wish, let me know, I'll give you a formal intro there. (We need more Jersey representation there, too - C'mon Ken)

RE: towncar website

I looked over there, but couldn't find my answer. Does the 1997 town car have air bags at all 4 corners? If so, what it the set-up. Bags all around or bags and air-struts like the Mark VIII? It is a signature series if that makes a difference.

I'm looking at a 1997 town car that I might be able to buy and sell, but has some suspension issues. The seller doesn't know that you can get replacement parts on the internet for cheap.

RE: towncar website

Nope, just in the back.

ALL the panther Platform cars use Rear Air suspension ONLY as an option. (std. on Towncar)

You have shocks and coil overs in the front.

RE: towncar website

WOW, I've had every combination there is:

Air Bags all around: Mark VIII
Coils all around: Fleetwood
Air Bags back / Coils Front: Town Car
**AND**
Suspension DELETE: Trans Am FireHawk

RE: towncar website

Thanks for all of your help! If the weather isn't too bad this weekend, I'll go down and take a look at the car. It is a 1997 Town Car with 85,000 miles and supposedly mint condition, but has the check air suspendion warning on. The compressor works and the bags hold air. They are asking $4,900. If I can get it for $4,500 and spend $500 to get the suspension fixed, I think I can get $6,000 easy for it.........I'll start at $7,000.

Sandy you forgot another suspension set-up.......
Leaf springs and Struts on 2 solid axles (jeepers)!!

Yes. But when I think of **MY** cars, I don't usually "think Jeepers" ~ I think of the 'Hawk, Pinkin' / Winkin' & greenKIN, and the Fleetwood 60 Spcl. and the 3 McLarens. The "Demos" and the parents Imperials as well Jeepers I guess I never considered as M*I*N*E

Oh, I like it...ALOT, really ALOT! I mean, I am crazy about it, and I bought it......and the title is in my name & I pay the insurance on it....but it's Matt's car (in my mind). His next car....he will buy! He'll have this one for at least 7 years.

Must be somethin' in the air. I'm now co-owner of my oldest son's new '00 Grand Cherokee.

RE: towncar website

Another love affair......

Ours is the original, the smaller one, the "XJ" the cherokee, not the GRAND cherokee, but it's the rare, seldom seen (10% of production) LIMITED. Leather, dual 6-way power heated reclining seats, 16" tire/wheels, Infinity Amp & Stereo system, select trac, all the goodies. 4.0L Six.http://members.tccoa.com/johnaec/Sandy/jeep.jpg

The Cherokee's are much better off-road due to their lightweight vs. power ratio. We have done some crazy things with that car. Even better performing then the overhaul 5.x engines found in the Grand Cherokee. However, those things have a lot of acceleration power on the streets.

See if you can find the one in this pic, it is a limited but in black. It was stuck on a sand dune for a little while, and we were all surprised it actually made it over eventually, we had to go around with all the other cars. This is the type of sand that will sink your leg 2 inches over your ankles. VERY DEEP STUFF. Nevertheless, a lot of fun.
