Actually, traction assist was an option on Gen 1 Mark VIII's.

Correct. It also works different from the Gen2 traction control.

RE: Traction controll

Thanks for the replies. How would you know if you had it as a option on a 93.

JP your advice has been instumental in my selection of a mark and the information you share is great for all of us.

RE: Traction controll

how does the gen1 and gen2 track asst differ? Im pretty sure the gen one works off of brakes. Doesnt it apply the brakes to the wheel/s that are spinning?

RE: Traction controll

Tom:
You would have a trac control on/off button beside the cig-lighter.
David:
Gen1s apply the brake on the spinning wheel, but only up to 30mph.
Gen2s apply the brake and retard engine timing depending upon speed,
are referred to as all speed trac control for that reason.

RE: Traction controll

The Gen1 traction control could be switched on/off via a switch on the console next to the rear defrost switch. The Gen2 traction control is deselected via the message center menu.

RE: Traction controll

when you turn the trac asst off in the 2nd gen mark does it stay off untill turned back on or does it turn it self back on when the car is started?

RE: Traction controll

I'm sure it resets itself - default is on.

There is someone here who was working on a mod for that very purpose.

TC is practically useless if you know how to drive. I want to default mine OFF on a Gen1.
[/div]

I don't drive like I did in my younger/dumber days, but I wonder how I would even attempt some of those maneuvers with things like ABS, traction control and the newer 'vehicle stability' programs.
