tranny cooler

I've used the same one a few times before. Its a HUGE stand alone cooler. It has worked well for me. It is probably overkill for a stock application, but I haven't had any trouble with it on my 95 for nearly 6 or 8 years now.

You're on the right track. Get a "stacked plate" cooler and not the "tube and fin" type.

The cold fluid is more viscous and has a harder time getting through the stacked plate cooler and as such allows the fluid to warmer quicker. Once up to anywhere near normal temps, the stacked plate cooler conducts heat from the fluid more efficiently than the tube and fin type.

If you get a large cooler, they can be ordered with a temperature bypass valve which is not needed unless you drive in very frigid weather on a regular basis.

It also helps if you install the cooler after the fluid leaves the radiator. The coolant helps warm the trans fluid, making it a little easier to flow through the small passages in the stacked plate style cooler.

i was told by a member of another lincoln site that i should look into getting a tranny cooler

is this a good brand? ive never looked for anything like this before

That is the exact cooler I am using with a 3800 stall torque converter that generates a lot of heat. You probably don't need one quite as big. Steve linked you to some that are probably better for your application. Buy a smaller cooler and save some money.

Killin me i can't order that, need to save money for emergencys in my trip. I really wanted to do a tranny flush and add that, so that even if my tranny dies the next one will have a much easier life.

Amazon is MY favorite place to shop. :) I just bought croutons there and didn't realize I bought a HUGE BOX for the same price as a couple of bags at the store.

See here...

heart attack in a box, look how many calories are in that crap next time you pick up the box. that stuff is no good for you.

i have a 22,000 gvw trans cooler for an RV in my 97, i also mounted a 7 inch 550 cfm pro-comp electric fan to the cooler. its mounted to the ac condensor right behind my grille.

yes pusher but i never need it, my trans temp stays around 120 even idling at a red light in fl, but i always have max ac on so my cooling fan is pulling in air too.

What stall converter do you have? Mine will be at about 160+ when driving in a spirited manner, and that is with a 40,000 gvw cooler and a 3800 stall.
