Tranny I think is messed up...need opinions...

Well, sounds like my Art Carr Extreme tranny is taking a dump...and I'm pretty ticked.

It's been doing a couple different things, but the biter has got to be when the car stalled while braking down an offramp, and it was heck trying to get it started again. Once I got it started, it ran at about 2 mph with the throttle on the floor. Rpms were at about 500, and there were no signs of engine struggle. The kicker was when I heard and felt a couple thumps under my seat. The car stalled again, and after restarting it, it seemed to be okay. The tranny shop mentioned that the tranny fluid was black when they changed it a week ago; black fluid in a tranny with only 10K miles pretty much eliminates the engine as the problem as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and one more thing. I lost 3rd and 4th gear on that same freeway offramp. Are we looking at a bad valve body here? I have a feeling I'm about to drop another $2K on this car. I'm going to call Art Carr tomorrow and ask if they'll help me out, seeing as how the tranny just made it out of the warranty period. We'll see what happens.

Where are you located? I have fixed a few of those units in my opinion they get alot of the stuff right ,but they do a few things that result in these problems. The alto clutches are my biggest problem with them. They just don't want to do the maching required to actually fit good frictions in there.

Art Carr just told me that I'm on my own. Throwing $2300 into my fireplace would have been a lot easier in my opinion.

DO NOT BUY A TRANNY FROM ART CARR! This is who supercoupeperformance and Reinhart Automotive go to so don't even bother with them.

The only two vendors left that have a better track record are lincolnmotorsport.com and blueovalchips.com. Neither of them advertise trannies on their site (yet), but they will build one for you if you ask. They build their own stuff (no middle man) and know what works, and most importantly they are honest guys who do not cut corners and WILL build your tranny right the first time.

Moderators: feel free to move this post, all or in-part, to the vendor section. Folks out there need to know about this.

Wayne !!
Sorry to hear about this. Those guys have been selling "fake" bullit proof trannies for some time now.

All I can tell you is get a uesd 98+ Tranny from FORD OEM and you will be happy. Man it is just such a pain to hear that you got ripped for $2300 worth of paperweights.

RE: Tranny I think is messed up...need opinions...

In the last year I have read about at least 10 of them braking between here and turbomustangs.com

Seriously AT LEAST 10. I hear about them 1-2 a month sometimes. Not that many people who post on the internet are gonna have them.

I always just say whateveryone else is saying...another ARt Carr down the drain, sorry to hear that.

Supercoupeperformance does offer better transmissions, but most people want the cheaper version which is Art Carr. If you talk to Bill he can give you the options. Lonnie is also offering well built transmissions so he is a good one to talk to as well.

I'm going with Lonnie and his stage 3 tranny and converter package. It will cost quite a bit more than the 98 OEM, but I am tough on trannies, and I want one that I can't break even if I tried.
