Tranny maintainence parts question

Do you need new seperator plate gaskets if you're doing the J-Mod stuff? If so does anyone have an idea on the price, I believe the part numbers per Jerry's thesis are F5AZ-7D100-A & F2VY-7C155-A if those are not the right numbers please correct me.

Also can you get the transmission filter at pretty much any Autozone?

If you install the tranny cooler completely independant of the radiator cooler do you need the bulkpart.com fittings at all? I figure if I install the tranny cooler directly in front of the radiator the radiator fan will cool both the tranny cooler and the radiator when I'm just idling with a hot engine.

and finally since i'll have the valve body off anyway to play with the j-mod stuff. Should I change the 2-3 accumulator, does that accumulator even need to be messed with? If I do have to the part numbers on that would be helpful.

RE: Tranny maintainence parts question

From my understanding you will need new gaskets. Don't know the prices. The filter should be available at any parts store. I just got one at NAPA. I am getting ready to throw the cooler on. I got confirmation from another member that if you skip the radiator you will actually need two of the bulkparts sets and you will use just the female end of each one.

There is a redesigned 2-3 accumulator out there, so you should probably consider it. The part #, along with new springs, is on fordpartsnetwork and they could probably get you those separator plate gaskets too.

I am getting ready to do the same thing, but holding off on the j-mod for now. I will go with a chip first.

RE: Tranny maintainence parts question

yes, new gaskets. When u buy the filter, if its a 96 and up filter, u have to get the 96 and up pan with the outdent in the bottom to fit the filter. I didnt no this.... waited a while to find a pan. While u have everything down, go for the 2-3 accum. switch. Its not hard and can save you time, and fluid later on. The cheapest places to get the parts are at 5starford, or at a dealerships are the easiest, and fastest.

The bulkparts.com fittings are a pair of barbed hose fittings, one male and one female.

Installing a transmission cooler in series with the OEM tank cooler integral with the radiator requires only one pair. The male fitting going into the radiator and the female fitting attaching to the steel tube and male fitting.

However, installing the transmission cooler independant of the OEM tank cooler integral with the radiator requires TWO pair since you will be using TWO female fittings - one on each steel tube and male fitting.

Are you sure about that? The 1-2 accumulator was redisigned and replacement is recommended, but I've never heard about a new 2-3 accumulator - I'd really hesitate changing that...

For part #'s and prices.

http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com/catalog/Lincoln/Mark_8/Transmission/

The 2-3 original design is the same as the 1-2. For some reason it has not been such a critical repair, but if you read through the writeups at tccoa, they mention it. There are pictures of it too, and the new one looks exactly like a new 1-2.

The replacement requires valve body removal, so maybe that is why it is not done more often.
