Trans and Mach 1 converter installed.

Ok, I'm all done.

I put a 2000 Mustang GT trans in 93. I jmod-ed it, removed the spring from the 2-3 accumulator, and the lower from the 1-2 accumulator. I drilled the valve body for the 300 to 450 setting. I installed a Mach 1 torque converter.

I used a new tcc for my 93 in this trans after trimming the connector to fit the new "circuit board" style harness. I used my MLPS, and VSS with my original speedo gear.

Problems. well, the 2-3 shift is late. What can fix this? Since the stangs came with a 3.27 factory in the rear, and my mark is a 3.08 rear, is there an 8 tooth gear that will get me where I need to be? Will this speedo gear cause a late 2-3 shift? What about the OSS? What is the OSS, and is it bad if I used the one that came with the trans in my year? Yes I changed the pins in the harness, and everything seems ok, except for that late 2-3 shift.

Also, it shuddered last night, not sure what gear I was in, but as soon as I back peddled it, it went away.

What did I do wrong???

RE: Trans and Mach 1 converter installed.

Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor

The output shaft speed (OSS) sensor is a magnetic pickup, located at the output shaft ring gear, that sends a signal to the powertrain control module to indicate transmission output shaft speed. The OSS is used for torque converter clutch control, shift scheduling and to determine electronic pressure control.

I remember reading a long time ago of shift concerns due to a failing OSS. I don't think the gear difference would matter, but I recall immediately after installing 4.10s that I didn't think my '93 shifted properly until the speedo gear on the VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) was changed. ::roll::

RE: Trans and Mach 1 converter installed.

Thanks Driller.

What gear would I need? It's a 2K stang trans, with the 8 tooth output shaft gear. Do they even have a gear for the 3.08 rear?

RE: Trans and Mach 1 converter installed.

I think I have the gear you need. If you want I could drop it in the mail....

RE: Trans and Mach 1 converter installed.

What is the newest trans that can be adapted to the 98?

I am debating on whether or not rebuild my 98 again its got 132k on it full j mods still shift ok but losing some fluid around the front pump, input shaft.

I built this one my self years back so its got all the good MDOWC etc in it.

Or is it easier just to scrap it and start over?

RE: Trans and Mach 1 converter installed.

Front seals aren't hard to replace assuming that's the only problem. If you got all the good stuff in it and you've built it, why not just fix the problem?

Well. Good news, bad news.

Bad news first. The 2-3 shift wasn't late. It was missing!!!

So, I droped the pan, valve body, etc. and the friggin 2-3 accumulator retainer fell out!!! I had put it in backwards, like a complete idiot.

So, I had these parts new from ford, so I replaced them re-assembled, added about 9 quarts of fluid, and test drove it.

2-3 shifts fine. I used the orange 20 tooth gear (Ford had it in stock?!?! Holy Crap!) so the speedo is real close.

I do have a shudder now. I'm been talking with alan about it (dirtd0g on TCCOA), and even though it was a freshly remanned converter, it may still be bad. So, I guess it's all got to come apart again.

But, yeah, you can make any pre 2003 stang trans work in our marks. You need your MLPS and TC Solenoid, Modify the harness conector that plugs into the trans, via the printout in jerry's thesis, or the drawing on modulordepot, and you're set.

You just have to make sure the trans has a spot for the VSS in the tailhousing. If it does, it has the "speedo" drive gear on the tailshaft. Just get the right speedo gear for your setup, and you are in like flynn.
