12 quarts is the capacity if it is completely dry. I would start by adding 6 quarts and then crank it and run it through each gear. After this procedure and after it is warmed up check the fluid and add accordingly.

no its closer to 12, 14 is too much. i have done probably 20 some odd trans flushes in these mark's and i have never been able to put 14 in, even 13 rarely, 12 to 13 is always right at the full mark.

Yea I've only flushed the mark a few times with a couple of years in between. I most recently did my truck, that was somewhere in the range of 20 when you include the transfer case. They looked at me like I was crazy at auto zone. =)

I always get 13, 1 case plus an extra quart.

I used to only get 12 quarts but would always need 1/2 a quart or so within a couple of days..
so now I just get 13, put 12 IN and keep the 13th for the "top off" in a day or two.

I was told by a Ford mechanic that they would not be responsible for tranny problems with my car if they changed the fluid because of high milage. What problems could changing the fluid cause?

If you have continually changed the oil when due, no problems. If it's you first time and the car has 200,000 miles onit...beware. The clean fluid "COULD" loosen the crud holding it together....but even that isn't a given. The mech was doing a CYA.

i beleve the tran holds 9 and the tc holds 3 if the tc is still out of the car feal it befor instaling. it helps in the pumping cycel.
