since were on te topic of transmission troubleshooting i got a problem. First of all when i shift from R to D it makes a clunk sound in the rear. Next, whenever i turn on the heater the car feels like an earthquake (not really but it shakes a little). what are we lookin at for problems here?

The clunk in the rear could be:

1. Loose differential gears (probably not)
2. Loose differential mounts (more probable)
3. Loose brake caliper or bracket (probable if the brakes have been serviced recently)

As for the heater, I might guess that the motor is out of balance(?)

RE: transmission clunkin noise

do you put the jack under the differential then or what?? what is the diameter of these things in inches?? I got 4 polyurethane bushgings that are about 1.25 inches wide.

There is a steel guard about an inch or two away from the diff case...looks like a block welded to a bracket; put your jack on that. Don't forget the jack stands - the rear is a lot more unstable than the front when raised. It'll enable you to get the jack out of the way for better working space as well.

1.25" thick or diameter? The diff bushings are about 2" in diameter - I forgot how thick they are.

very good!! are these other mounts for sale on MN-12 (that total 80 dollars) the 2 engine mounts, transmission mount and the rear end polyurethane devices or what have we? im thinking i could just buy new engine mounts and fill them with polyurethane if the kit is just for transmission and umm rear end.

Polyeurethane engine mounts?

That would be an uncomfortable ride...
