Hmmm, I haven't asked the kid if he could do it, but when I asked at the dealer they implied a lot of work would be involved with rewiring and stuff... yeah, the kid... that is what I had him for isn't it? To do things I can't or don't want to do?
I've got power (and ground) TO the switch but no light. I found a replacement for $75. I think I'll try to pry the switch apart and see what's up before I spend that kind of money, or as suggested, pick up something at the hardware store for a couple bucks and screw it on there. It's not like anybody's ever gonna' see it! (except AAA)
I never hesitate to take something apart that doesn't work. I figure the worse that will happen is it will never work again. Now, restraining myself from tearing apart something that has nothing wrong with it is another issue.
If you find the tilt switch malfunctioning beyond repair, you can add a tilt switch inline and bypass the switch inside. If you find the slide switch bad, I wouldn't hesitate bypassing it and letting the tilt switch do fulltime duty. Heck, it was a long time until I knew a slide switch was on mine. I used to just take out the bulb if I had the hood up any length of time. It gets hot and burns your fingertips, so noticing that little slide switch was helpful to say the least.
LOL. Right on Driller. If you don't take it apart while it's working properly, how ya gonna' know how it's supposed to work?
If I put an inexpensive switch on there from a hardware store, I wonder if the computer will still shut the thing off after an hour?
BTW Driller, I received the battery terminal from one of your posted links. Since I was expecting TWO for the price I sent it back but not before inspecting it. The thing was about 4" in diameter 1" thick and weighed in at 16 plus ounces!! I just couldn't appreciate its usefullness. That reminds me, I need to check if my card was credited.
I think Napa used to carry mercury switches for trunk lights, you might want to check. It might be worth checking JCWhitney or other online autoparts stores. Perhaps a local junkyard may have one? I don't know if I have enough faith to let the car automatically shut the light off after an hour. Besides, it would then be on every time you drove, plus another hour.
A 4" diameter by 1" thick one pound battery terminal! Wow. I dipped a little lower and got a pair suggested to me from another site. 'Stinger' brand I believe. I've been on an engine compartment spring cleaning kick lately and decided the dumb 'tin' terminals had to go.
