Visteon Mach MP3 - is it good?

I'm wanting to either buy a new 10-disc CD changer or perhaps the Visteon MP3 unit. My 10-disc is dying on me (not even bumps or hard turns are messing it up, it just stops when it feels like it!) so I'm looking for something to replace it.

Which would be cheaper, buying a new 10-disc changer or that Visteon unit? I tried looking on the internet for a good deal on a Visteon but it seems there aren't many resellers :(

If anyone has a suggestion, I'm all ears!

RE: Visteon Mach MP3 - is it good?

Did you find a Visteon reseller that sells online? Visteon's site only lists them by distance from your zip. I'd like to price their 6 disc frontloader if I can't get my stock unit fixed.

RE: Visteon Mach MP3 - is it good?

I found a place that's 6 miles away from my house. I called them up and I was told that no Visteon unit would work with my Lincoln Mark VIII. Anyone actually own one of these Visteon head units? It looks almost exactly like my stock unit, so what gives? He mentioned something about an adaptor, do you guys know what he's talking about?

RE: Visteon Mach MP3 - is it good?

Last night I sent emails to 2 dealers nearest me, about 115 miles away. I asked about the Mach MP3 and the CD-6 and compatability with the Mark VII. I'll post their answers, if they answer...

Well, I was just going by what their website says - here's a direct quote:

Compatible with Ford and Lincoln Mercury Vehicles
The MACH MP3 is compatible with Ford OE CD changers and fits easily into many vehicles in the Ford and Lincoln-Mercury car and truck family.

RE: Visteon Mach MP3 - is it good?

I went to their store and they said I could do one of three things:

1. Exchange my existing 10-disc changer for a refurbished one ($230 w/no guarantee)

2. Install a brand-new Audiovox 6-disc changer, currently used in newer-model Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles ($299 w/warranty - including installation)

3. Go to a different store and have them install a new CD head unit ($200+)

I think I'll have to go with option #2. I don't want to attract thieves with an aftermarket head unit, and I'd rather pay an extra $70 to get a brand-new 6-disc instead of a refurbished 10-disc.

What do you guys think?

Well, I heard back from one of them...

Kerry, unfortunally your wiring is not compatible.
I believe you have the Lux/JBL system.
Your radio is actually in the trunk it's called the (RCU) the unit in your
dash is just a control head (FCU)
I don't know a place that would attempt to re-wire the whole system. You
have a harness that runs from the trunk all the way to the dash.

Your best bet would be to take your car somewhere that deals in aftermarket
radios like Alpine, Sony, or Kenwood.

We could fix your existing unit for you, if you would like to keep the
factory system.

Well, their stuff may not be a direct plug-in for older Fords, but if you can get ahold of the wiring diagrams/specs, I don't see why any of those units couldn't be installed with your own custom wiring. I've still got my eye on that satellite system, but the Visteon dealers around here say that that model doesn't even exist yet except on paper.
