Want to get a "Jmod" in Socal. Nobody will touch it.

I live in SoCal and I've called 20 or 30 places and a few know what the Jmod actually is, but none of them will do it.

Does anyone know of a shop in SoCal that will do the Jmod?

Is there a backyard mechanic that has done it before (where the car actually worked afterwards and no professional help or replacement was necessary) who lives in SoCal that's willing to do the mod?

From what I understand, a JMod is something like a shift kit. But, the shiftkit that I remember on my old truck was a neck snapper, even at low speeds. Will a Jmod give me neck injuries or is it more of a upgrade type deal?

I'm doing a 4.10 gear install in the next week or so. Yes, upgraded the drive shaft and going with a TrackLock and forced lube. Is a Jmod suggested with a 4.10?

I would suggest doing it even on a stock car. It'll just make the tranny last longer. It will make it shift a little harder, but most of that is in the computer, so without a reprogram it will still shift fairly soft.

I wouldn't bother with the forced lube mod.

There are some great articles on the J-Mod and written so that you can do it yourself. Do some searching on this site and you will find them. Jumping into 4:10 gears should also be in conjunction with a new drive shaft. I have a tail shaft lube set up that I did not use as I went to 3 : 90 gears. There have been some people who have done this mod with some bad results (leaking). This mod dictates that you remove the tail shaft, weld a bung on, drill & tap the bung, replace the bearing, drill the bearing, deburr, and re-install a new seal. If you are interested I have the complete Art Carr Kit to do this.

Don at KBL transmission in Midway City (Orange county) can help you. He's a one-man band, but he knows his stuff and does good work. He'll do whatever you ask him to do.
