wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

I test fit my 17 X 9 Cobra Rs today. I have 255/45 tires on them. It appears I am going to have an interference problem at the upper part of the spindle. It seems I may need a 1/4" spacer to aleviate this problem. Is this normal? What are you guys doing? This is on my 97 Mark VIII.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

where did you get them what's the offset? I have about in 3/16 clearance with my dante designs 17x9's with a 36mm offset. Is everything tight in your front end? worn parts may be making things sag.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

I guess I need to measure and see what the actual offset is. They are supposed to be for T-Birds, but maybe they are not 36MM offset. I'll check.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

might be difficult to measure........especially without knowing exactly what the center is

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

I've heard of someone having this problem before, then others not having the problem with the same exact wheels.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

yea I was worried when I ordered mine, but Brad (cudaz101) promised they would fit, no question on hassle. They did! I know they haven't for plenty of people getting them from other sources though...... A small spacer like maybe 3mm or something would do it? I just wouldn't go putting huge spacers in, they arn't good.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

you can run spacers but make sure to get longer studs.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

something doesn't add up here. I have 18x9s they fit up front no problem i have +30mm offset and about 1/2 an inch. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the 36mm offset.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

Max - that 6mm difference is about 1/4" closer in towards the spindles than your 30mm, plus his 17" diameter moves the wheels down 1/2" closer to the spindles - right into rubbing territory...

I have the Cobra R wheels and I'm doing exactly what you mentioned: 1/4 inch spacer

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

i heard of it when the cobra r first starting coming out in our bolt pattern, people were using spacers......

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

I'm think because of the tight fit with the 17x9's if they arn't exectly 36mm or if some somponant of your suspension is is very loose they will rub. Could also be slight differences in spindles although I'm not aware of any. But I haven't heard of anyone on here of the t-bird forums complain about the cobra r rims from dante designs that cudaz101 sells. I have my 17x9's on and yea it's close, a little close in and I can definately see how there would be problems. Would an 1/8 inch spacer do it? I really wouldn't want to put any more then that.

Anyway sorry to hear about the rubbing..............glad mine don't, although it was a big concern of mine when I ordered.

RE: wanted Cobra R wheel owners......

I think a 1/8 would be enough, but I had mine custom made and the smallest the guy could make was 1/4.
