Weird Moose behavior

Tonight I accidentally hit the panic button on the remote, no biggie, I just hit it again and it turned off. BUT... when I went to start the car the Anti Theft light was rapidly flashing and Moose wouldn't start. Checked the rear neon, made sure it was in Park, tried in neutral, set alarm and tried it all again... nothing! Of course I wasn't at home so this was going to be a major pain. I even called JP to see if he knew of a workaround... nope... thanks anyway JP.

Anyway after many times turning on and off the alarm it suddenly started. Seems it wasn't recognizing the PATS key but now it does.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

When I hit MY panic button, hitting the panic button again will NOT turn it off panic. I have to hit the unlock button. Not sure if anyone else's works like this, but my Dad's 97 that I'm borrowing does. His "Panic" button is in the same location as my "Trunk" button on my Honda....I'm always hitting the panic button on accident. lol

Attempting to start the car with the key always cancels the alarm on mine.. of course, I tired of this, and opted to quit carrying the keyfob. I haven't had a problem since. :)

I have Gen1 which may be different, but when I have had issues similar with the alarms going off I go to the key pad and tap in the code numbers and get it cleared.

I've hit the panic button a number of times on my '97 and have never experienced this problem. Just hit the panic button again to turn it off..... I usually hit it when the keys & fob is in my front pants pocket!

I think there is some sort of timeout with the PATS and alarm. I think this is to prevent someone trying a bunch of different coded keys, the time out makes it inconvenient.
Why this happed when you hit the panic button and have the correct key i do not know.

Check the OM, it may have something on it.

...Check the OM, it may have something on it.

I did and the only mention of a rapidly flashing Theft Alarm light is that if it's flashing the car won't start. It does not say anything further. I haven't gotten around to it but I'll check the service manuals to see if something is in there. So far everything is working normally.

What Steve says makes sense....its to outsmart the bad guys but it really only inconveniences us. Lol!

So you think that somehow this timer activated and didn't allow the car to start for about 30 minutes or so?

on my 1998, the panic button will turn the alarm back off.

On my aunts towncar, she had that happen. Her towncar would not start after the alarm got set off. The way I cleared it was sticking the key in the drivers door and manually unlocking it. Have not tried that in my Mark VIII yet.

Her town car was a mid 90's.

That's the one thing I never thought of trying. I'm not about to experiment now but if it happens again I'll be sure to give it a try.
