Weird noise.

I've noticed lately that when I'm going forward or reverse at low speeds and I hit the brakes, I hear sound similar to a fan hitting the shroud or like when we were kids and put playing cards in bicycle spokes and I can feel it too. It definitely sounds like it's coming from underneath the car around the transmission area. Anyone come across this before?

Thats not good! Is the car still moving when its making this noise? It could be that you have a couple broken fins in the torque converter. You would probably only hear that at very low speeds.

If you version of "low speeds" is 25 MPH or so, you're probably hearing cracked rotors. There really isn't too much that can cause that noise.

Try to be more specific, what speed, how hard on the brakes, etc...

EDIT* It could also be bad u-joints.

Low speed as in 10mph or less. Like this morning when I was backing out of the driveway and I eased onto the brakes to slow to a stop I heard and felt a da-da-da-da-da-da real fast sound, like an automatic rifle. I don't necessarily have to be hitting the brakes, it's just more common then. It's definitely a fast repetitive sound, like a fan hitting a shroud and I can feel it in the seat. I'm about 90% sure it's coming from the transmission area. I thought something was rubbing the first time I heard it, but I don't think anything is. It just started the other day.

Hmmmm.....sounds to me like you possibly have a diff or trans mount loose and when you apply the brakes or put an opposite load on the drive train the drive shaft is moving up (or down) and hitting a metal shroud (like your gas tank) underneath your car.

I would jack it up ASAP and see if there are any signs of rubbage.
