went racing again-not happy, but not mad

I was leaving work, and my buddy called and said he was taking his 9 second drag car to the track. I had no idea our season even started tonight. What a nice surprise. So, off I headed to Infineon raceway.
Unfortunately, I had just filled up my tank. Wrong way to drag race. I have been dying to snag that elusive 14 second time slip, and now with my JMOD, I thought I was there.

I emptied the trunk of spare tire, and detailing junk, dropped the rear tires to 25psi, and got in line.

I did a small burnout to clean the tires of debris, and staged the car. I guess I was excited, because I went "in" a bit deeper than I wanted(I try to stage as shallow as possible, to get the best e.t.).
The lights came down, POW... .505 reaction time(.500 is perfect!). I was pretty happy that I could nail the tree after 4 months since my last attempt.

The car squated a bit, and then blew the rear tires away. I spun for what seemed like an eternity. The car then hooked up, and nailed second gear hard enough to actually wiggle a bit(no traction, again). I crossed the stripe, stayed in it another second, and right at 6k, it chirped third too. I LOVE the JMOD.

I get my time slip, and I wasnt happy. My last trip to the track, in stock form, produced "respectable" 60ft times of a 2.24's and 2.27's. Tonight, they were a horrible 2.56!!!Thats more than 3/10ths of a second slower! The car seemed happy all the way down the track, once it hooked up. It ran a 15.18 @ 95.45mph. I made three runs, and the funny thing is, it ran back to back e.t.'s that were only different by 1/1000th second on 2 of them. very consistent, but horrible 60ft times.

I dont feel too bad. My buddy's car was running 60ft's consistent with a 10.7o pass, but was running 9.70's, so the track was horrible. I didnt expect much since this was the first event of the year, it has rained every other day for almost a month, and it rained 2 hours before we went down the track tonight. Good air, bad track.

I guess the worst part is, my 60 fts were off by 3/10ths of a second, and I was running 15.18-15.20's. Do you know what that means?

I would have easily run into the 14.90's if I had the same amount of traction as last season. Plus, I had a full tank of gas!!!(there's a 1/100th easily!). Possible high 14.80's!

But, until I am holding a 14 second time slip, I dont have a 14 second car.

But the time slips dont lie. 3/10ths slower off the line than my previous best e.t. of 15.07 is acceptable in my book.

I decided to park the car, and not enter eliminations. We were pretty busy between rounds sorting out my buddy's car, and since I wasnt accomplishing anything by spinning the tires so bad, I decided to "save the equipment".

I was also thinking that my recent coil spring conversion was hurting me a bit, but I later found out that every one I talked to was off 3-5/10ths, so it wasnt my springs, it was the track.

But, I did nail the tree with that killer light, and about 30 different people were all over my car asking me this and that, so it was pretty cool.

BTW, my buddy's car is ready. He has a 468 cu.in. chevy motor in a 1970 Camaro, Enderle injected, on alcohol. I help tune the car, and provide all the track support for him. He was pretty happy with the consistency of his car tonight, even though the track was garbage.

I will wait for a nice, dry day/night, with a 1/4 tank of gas, instead of a full tank, and I am sure my 14 second time slip will be had. Thanks for reading.
