What Did I Do Wrong?

Hey guys, I thought I read that I could convert to halogen bulbs for the low beams by just wiring up the new bulbs where the old hids were connected? I took out the balast and the old hids and then ran the wiring to the new halogen bulbs and they don't work..... all the other lights seem to be ok. Any ideas?

Anyone have a wiring diagram for the low beams? I can't believe these things are not working. I do need to confirm I have power at the connectors, I guess I'll get out the old voltmeter ;-)

OK, after looking at the 97 (I have a 98) diagram I have a question. I replaced my steering column prior to doing the halogens.......... Can someone elabrate on the SCIL module? Where is it and could it be my problem? High beams work and it looks like they are NOT dependent on this module........

I don't believe that the old HID wiring will work with regular(halogen) headlights..... they draw too much current for the HID wiring. Best bet is to try to find someone that did the conversion using the Lincoln Kit they designed for HID replacement a few years ago and look at the instructions.

Seems like it would be easier to use a relay harness connected to the stock wiring to drive the halogens.

But why are you doing this?

Just install an aftermarket HID kit. You could do it for around $100.

Recheck the wiring...

DB/W(+12VDC) and BK(Ground) for the left headlamp.

DG/O(+12VDC) and BK(Ground) for the right headlamp.

Check for battery voltage on the DB/W and DG/0 wires with the headlamps on.

Check for continuity to ground on both black wires.

Well, I had these bulbs in the garage so I just thought I would use them rather than buying after market HID's. If I continue to have trouble I might just go ahead and do the HID's per your post.

Thanks!

OK, I will check these in the next day or two. Thanks for the feedback!

What is technically the "ballast" on my 98? The part the old HID bulb is mounted to, or the silver box from which the wiring comes? Does this make sense?

The two ballasts are behind the bumper on Gen II's

The bulb is mounted to the headlight housing.

It sounds like you're connecting the halogen bulbs to the OEM ballasts. You need to trace the wires from the silver finned radiator looking box to the harness, and unplug them there (in front of the A/C condenser, at the very bottom). This is where you new halogen bulb harnesses need to be connected.

That's it! I traced the wires to the "silver finned radiator looking box", now I see my mistake. I have been trying to connect them to the ballast like your saying ;-( Hopefully I can get this fixed tonight. Thanks guys!

SUCCESS! Thanks for the feedback guys, once I bypassed the old ballast the new halogen bulbs work like a charm!
