My mark is pretty much bone stock with 260,000 miles, but yesterday on the way home from work I got smoked by a Hyundai Genesis. That thing was quick!

Umm yea. Times have changed. That genesis has a 4.6 V8 with 375hp or a 3.8 V6 with 306 hp.
The V8 goes 0-60 in 5.5 the V6 does it in 6.1 both are significantly quicker than a stock mark 8 and feature a 6 speed auto.

yup, the mark viii platform is over 15 years older. :frown:

back in 1993, the Lincoln Mark VIII was chock-full of revolutionary components.
in 1997, the Mark VIII featured several industry-firsts.

technology has surpassed the Mark VIII. More efficient, and more reliable horsepower is possible now. If the Mark VIII evolved at the same rate as many of today's new cars have, the 2010 Mark (insert roman numeral whatever here) would probably boast a
375hp/425 lb/ft all-aluminum 32v V8 with a 6-speed auto, and sell for around $64k.

BTW, my GF works for a multi-line dealership, and one of their lines is Hyundai...and ALL of the tech's there agree..that new Genesis is one bad momma.

if Hyundai didnt have the old reputation of building disposable Imports in the 80s, they would probably rank up there right now.

BTW, back to the topic;
hauling a bone-stock, sub-4000 lb 15+ year old car with 3.08/3.27 one-legger and an outdated 4-speed AOD down the track in less than 15 seconds is no easy task...yet, our old dinosaurs can do it if conditions are right.

My 94 did it with an extra 500 lbs in it, heat soaked, and 130k+ miles on it.

I really don't see what makes those genesis cars all that great. infiniti is no worse and is around the same money... besides that it has the same performance #s or better with a V6 vs that gas guzzling V8

You could just about say the same thing about almost every car on the road.
That's what Lincoln owners used to say about the Caddy, and Lexus SC's back in the 90's.

There's always going to be someone who likes one product more than another.

The technicians who earn their living working on cars, tearing them apart day in and day out, tend to have a pretty educated opinion about the cars they work on...if they like something, chances are, it's pretty good.
