What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I had to buy new tweets and rubbed a hole into one of my focal's. :( The hole is in the rubber surround and I filled it with silicone but I think it still is causing some noise at low volumes.

What's going on in everyone's cars.

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I had some big plans for my birthday a few months ago, but I'm am considering getting a new car, so I'm holding off until I know for sure. There are very very few cars I'd be willing to give up the mark for, (3000GT VR-4 is one of them...) but the driving the mark just hasn't been much been lately, and It needs some costly repairs. we'll see. Heck I might even sell off most of the system (excpet for the rainbows, I could never part with them...:))

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

stock right now. I just picked up 2 10in Boston Acoustics subs and an Eclipse amp, thanks Mark......
I'm looking for a head unit that reads MP3 burned CDs. I'm considering the Alpine CDA-9815

What do you guys think? Any other head unit recommendations?

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I personally went with the Alpine 9813. Still plenty of toys, but the biggest reason was that it blended better with the dash.

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

and Ihave never been a fan of anything made by panasonic. I have a good panasonic cordless phone in my house, but that is about it...

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

i had a panasonic at one time when i knew very little about quality sound and went for the flash. its now in my mothers car. the thing never skips and sounds pretty good. im much happier with my alpine now.

in the next 2 months im gonna be moving up to Connecticut and getting a job that pays pretty well so ill finally be able to complete my system. id like to remake the door skins out of fiberglass and house my 3" and tweet down where the trunk and fuel door buttons are. i may end up just cutting that section and using a small amount of fiberglass. theres a ton more that i want to do and will try to implement these plans but ive got a new project car in the form of a 68 L88 vette to restore 1st. as of now, my system is pretty much the same as its always been. its gonna be a busy year, no doubt.

Dj, i dont know if ive asked u this before, but do u know anything about aperiodic enclosures and whats involved in building them?

Exactly. I liked the fact the 9813 is more in line with the dash lighting. It'll probably come down to the 9813 or 9815 depending on what kind of deal I can get. Thanks for your thoughts.

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I recently replaced my radio with an Eclipse Model CD5423.
Very nice sound quality.

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I'm toying with the idea of fiberglass sub enclosures, but even if I decide to do it, I won't have time to start on it until summer.

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I have the pioneer head unit with the 3d display plays mp3s and is great-the greeny teal light fits perfect with the displays of the mark8 looks perfect---its blends perfectly with the mark8 and allows a great deal of control for presets and settings as well as very aftermarket tuneable--with subs and such---in the next couple months after i finish the performance mods on my mark8 im gonna be redoin the sound system--new speakers tweeters and such and probably thinking about two rockford fosgate fifteens in the trunk--my friends old system he had for around a week until the car was wrecked---then im gonna go for the video system--i need some tvs---getting one in each visor installed--one in each headrest and one mountable via gooseneck from the passenger seat in the front---didnt opt for the indash tv because of theft reason--its not easy to hide--these can be hidden alot better covered up and such---
Anyone have any recommendations on what kinda of speakers to get-i had kenwoods-not thrilled with them--so let me know any suggestions

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

Are you looking for components. If so the ONLY thing I would recommend are Focal's. (if you have the money)

It's true that I have never heard any component systems that compete with focal's in the car audio market, but I can personally vouch for the focal utopias. These speakers are bright and have great SQ.

The v3's are much better and have more mid-base which you will notice a lack-of with the v2's.

(but Darn... 2 15's.?!?!?!?!. )
woah

You going ported or enclosed?

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

well hey im basically getting the two 15's with the box for free just need the amp---the box wont fit as is--its 2inchs shy---so im debating about how i wanna do it---probably gonna separate them in their own boxes and channel them through a single amp---i have seen em on ebay--great prices and lots of power from a rckfrd fgt amp--i think the one i would get would be around $300-$350--dont wanna go tooo crazy but just want awesome sound and bass every now and then
---as far as the speakers===ive been told components would be the way to go but have also been told that the mark8 is a hard fit--not sure didnt research it too much yet---whats ur know how tell ya? also what would we be talkin for focals? do u have any specific model or what not u recommend? i want an awesome sound from what ever speakers i get because i am going to be putting the tvs in soon and want the home thearter on wheels feel lol-so let me know

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

I had excellent luck with my 2 JL ausio 15w6s bandpassed and ported through the rear deck.Absolutely NOTHING rattled.I'll never go with just a box in the trunk again.Even if its ported, port it through the deck.It brings all the sound into the car instead of having it rattling your trunklid.

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

So u prefer the bandpassed setups--they are the ones with the clear plexiglass like shied on them right=the audio guy recommended that but i never had any experience or knowledge of it--any chance i could get u to send me a pic of ur setup in the trunk=ive been trying to see some different setup pics=thanks jim

RE: What's going on in everyone's audio world?

As far as component sets I'd recommend the Polyglass Focal V3's. I want some of those sooo bad. You will have to find a place to install the mid's though. I have the v2's (only 2 speakers) and it's nearly a direct install. You have to drill a couple holes in the metal and mount the tweeters with some mounting brackets but nothing that would take all day. A couple hours for the full install of both doors should be plenty of time.

If, when it comes to the install, your needing questions answered give me a holler on aim. mycophmycoph
