I have a 94 mark III what do you guys think a good converter stall speed would be I run a engine that has a power band from 1600 - 6500 RPM and Im running a c4 3 speed trans and have a little over 400 hp
also could I get your opinion on rear end gear ratios and posi units
this car is a street rod but will see very limited strip use

thank you MarkVIII347

RE: whats the diff ?? :)

I would talk to a couple different suppliers, then add a couple hundred. ;)

RE: whats the diff ?? :)

if you want to drive it on the highway with a 3 speed i wouldn't go with more than 3.27's. c4 uses a non-lockup torque converter, right? if so, if you want it to be streetable, you're going to have to keep the stall kinda low. i wouldn't go with more than 2000 rpm or so.

RE: whats the diff ?? :)

It really depends on how the converter is built. I put a 2500 stall 10 inch in my buddies 67 stang and it got better mileage than before. He had 3.00 gears and was wanting more gear.

RE: whats the diff ?? :)

Alen I was reading as much as I could and Im finding that stallspeed is controled or effected by
vehical weight
body syle
engine perormance and parts specs
torque range
rpm
power band
you would think someone would have come up with a formula to help you select the right converter
oh wait there is stall speed and flash speed and different manufactures advertize differently plus or minus so much rpm it leaves me thinking that it is not possible to make an inteligent choice
is there someone out there with a program that you can input lots of data to and it ends up telling you what to buy or maybe a place that makes custom converters just for my application?

confused :)
