RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

155 in a Mark VIII. 145 in a Honda Accord V6 that car doesn't have a speedlimiter??? 85mph in my Jeep, lol SUVs are not meant for driving fast.

525 mph.....on an airplane. :+

I've been over 130 a few thousand times in a race car...had a 930 turbo up to about 150 and I've seen 160-ish in a BMW M1

the real impressive thing would be...what was the quickest you've ever reached your speed?

for me, I dont need to go over 130 mph...but I'd like to be the first one up TO 130!

anyone here ever driven a drag car that pulled harder in top gear than a Corvette does in 1st gear?

0-60 in 3.5 seconds
60-100 in 3.2 seconds
100-136 in 3.2 seconds

now to me, that's where it's at. what fun is it going 150+ mph if it took you almost 30 seconds to get to that speed?

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

I don't know, but it was in a 1965 Buick Wildcat with a 455 cubic inch V8. The speedo only went to 120 but it was like 3 feet long and the needle would disappear with ease.

You could see the needle if you opened the glovebox but there were no numbers. :+

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

I've had the mark to 130 or so. I had a nascar winston cup car to 160 or so at the richard petty driving experience. did a ride-along too, probably went closer to 170 or 180 riding.

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

I've had my Cougar up to around 123-124. The Mark's only been up to 110.

That Wildcat at over 120 must have been like our H2 at around 95...a fairly dangerous venture. But the H2 handles extremely well for a vehicle of its size.

I've gone somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 in my deceased 93 Mark. It was modded fairly extensively.

I've only gone about 110 in my 96 Mark...I've been married since I bought it a year ago, so I may never see more than that ever again. I understand why being married lowers your auto insurance rates...my wife acts as enforcement! Something about being around for our future kids...I wasn't really paying attention... :+

That it was.

One trip at high speeds ended prematurely when I slowed to get off an exit. The behemoth started to shake violently once the speed got down to 70mph and I was forced to pull off to the side of the road. It was then I discovered I had a flat.

That was when I was young and dumb. Now for example, the F250 PSD I drive is governed to just under 95. I left the speed limiter intact even with the BullyDog programmer option to remove it. Something about 8000 pound trucks on BFGs at over a 100 mph bothers me now that I'm in my wiser years.

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

I've hit the limter in the mark around 124 a few times, but the fastest i've been was when i was a passenger in a friends built up 10 second mustang, on some back roads he gunned it up to 180 in a flash, scared the poop out of me

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

190+ MPH in my blue car multiple times. With 1200+rwhp it gets there up there quick now.

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

160 give or take a MPH in the Vette before i let off. I have hit the limmiter in the Mark before.

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

First car I ever drove, 175 plus in a 1968 Vette 427-435. My buddy was driving, he opened his window and the convertibe top tore off! I thought I was going with it!

wow. Your buddy must have done a serious gear swap. The L-71's top speed was 142 mph. He might have had the L-88 motor, but that still might not have given it another 30+ mph in the top end...

dont get me wrong...not trying to call a bluff...believe me...even 142 mph will feel like 175+....especially with no roof!!! AND...in a plastic coffin on top of that!

Nice car, though...that's for darn sure! I take it you'll never forget that ride...I sure didnt when my buddy took me for a ride in his '69 427/435 tri-power roadster...I dont know if we ever got over 80 mph, but getting there was all the fun!

Close... this one actually... pictured here in a magazine photoshoot circa 1974. Cars are my 1951 Fiat 500C which I still own, a 1962 Ferrari 250GTE which I sold (kicking myself in the you know what right now) and the M8C which was sold when CanAm racing bit the dust. The car now comfortably lives in Hamilton, Ontario and to this day the car still sports the orange/violet paint, minus our trademarks all over it, and is happy racing in vintage races in Canada couple of times a year. We also used to race a Ford GT40 whch is the oldest existing GT40, chassis number 103, prototypes 101 and 102 where wrecked. The car was a multiple Daytona 24hrs winner and my friend Bill Wonder bought it from Carol Shelby around 1966. When I came on board in the early 70's we raced in a lot of road races and twice finished in the top ten overall at Daytona. Those where the days! Just last week I read that the car was recently sold on the auction block for over $2.5 million. I almost fainted! http://www.sportscarmarket.com/profiles/2005/November/Race/index.html

This site has good stats on Vettes. The L-88 is very rare. A 1969 road test for the L-88 has a top speed of 151 for a 3 speed auto.

RE: whats the fastest you have ever gone?

If I remember correctly in 1978 I rode a KZ1000 140 mph.

Leo...I am in awe. That car is awesome. Can-Am racing was one of my favorites to watch at our local track (Sears Point, now Infineon) at some of the club events...there are a few motorsports shops based at the track, and two or three of the owners still have some Can-Am cars in them.

I am not sure what chassis they are, but nothing is cooler than seeing the "stacks" coming at you from 1/4 mile away at full song.

the colors on your car are cool...way cool.

I am in awe.

as for the GT-40, well...if you had a dollar for every car you've probably owned that you wish you still had....you might have enough to go buy one of them back!!!

I had no idea you have "been there, done that" in that form of auto history. You have always been "that guy with the clean Gen 2, and a nice ElCo".

hahahahahaha....J/K....but still, I never knew. Lucky you are to have something many will never have...memories of driving cars like those...the good old days.
