What did you do to your HL Housings to make the light brighter.

PLease tell us your HL stories.

I've done the sand/polish with sylvannia lights to no avail. It's a great temporary fix but not good enouph for the daily driver.

RE: Whoever has opened their Headlight Housing

I had mine opened up a while back when my swing down gear motors for the foglights burned out...(they stuck halfway down) so i yanked them, left the brackets for later, I cut out four square holes and was running PIAA driving lights in the headlight buckets for low and high beams. Got sick of dust and crap getting in there...because i left the back open for heat dispersal. got sick of cleaning, and bought a new set of stockers from Max at Five Star. It can be done and looks wayy cool mounted behind the stock plastic. It will work for daily driving, and a quick fix, but IMO it isnt worth it...go with some new stockers...there bright at night and will last for at least two years...just eat the bill, and call it regular 60,000 mile maintenance.
When you have them separated and polished both sides, you could go get the backside replated chrome, which will fix the prob, but with all that the price for new ones far outweigh the labor and replating charges...

wow, i didnt know someone already mounted auxilary lights into the headlight housings. i plan on doing this very soon. did u have them wired up to come on automatically like the stock lights? was leaving the back exposed completely necessary? i was thinking of drilling a few holes for heat dispersion.

I took the time to dissect my lenses from the housing. i zipped the lenses right off with a dremmel and the circular saw blade attachment. i removed the metal reflector and re-chromed the interior.next i wet sanded the outer surface and polished it with the mothers billet twice. one more coat of wax and its ready to seal up.i mated the tow back together with a clear flexible marine adhesive. i posted a couple of pics. all in all it took me an hour labor per lens not including drying time. http://www.aaanetservices.com/mk8lights.jpg

Could you elaborate on re-chromed the interior? What exactly did you do?

There are posts on the other site about setting your oven to 400 degrees and turning it off. Then place the headlights on a cold cookie sheet inside the oven for ten minutes. Supposedly, you can pry the units apart. Then glue chrome strips from a Suziki Samarai dress up kit to the inside. Reglue them and they are ready to install. I'm going on my fading memory. Do a search!!
