Why me? Very disappointed in Edelbrock quality control

Last couple of days were a major engine upgrade to the El Camino, along with other work on went the manifold (which was full of shavings!), the carb, fuel lines, etc. Engine would not start, drove us nuts for an hour and a half trying to figure it out. There was fuel pumping out of the line at the filter so the pump is ok... checked the fuel line to the carb, intake end looked fine but but no fuel to the carb. Figured maybe there's an obstruction so we took the fuel line off the carb and blew into it... nothing, completely blocked! That is when we discovered there was NO OUTLET AT THE CARB END!! No hole! See the attached picture.

Now the carburetor, apparently shipping knocked the floats out of alignment and the car refuses to stay at whetever idle speed we set and is hard to start after running, apparently flooded. This will now require us to remove the carb and see what the problem is. More time wasted.

Also, the gaskets that came with the manifold were a very poor fit with overlaps and holes not big enough in places. A trip to the parts store and some Fel-Pro gaskets that fit perfectly. How can all this happen to one guy! Just my luck or is Edelbrock quality control running into a serious problem?

I'm very disappointed in Edelbrock.
