Why you should change your spark plugs and wires regular

My first time posting. I own a 1995 LSC. Bought the car used 4 months ago 162K miles clean, and did not know I have a LSC (no badges) until last week when I found the original owners manual under the seat in a leather like case with a chrome Lincoln Pen and a warranty card that says my car is an LSC. Cool!!

When I bought the car, it was plenty fast, but had a slight miss and vibration. I would still beat cars off the line and down the road. Over the weeks, the miss and vibration got worse until it was unbearable to drive the car. I found this forum and read about many different reasons for the miss/vibration. So I decided to change the plugs and wires today. Now the car is really fast and the engine is smooth.

Today, I was challenged by a guy with a Chrysler 300 R/T. I turned off the trac control and turned off the OD and waited for the traffic light (the street was clear of traffic and pedestrians).
Off the line, my car smoked the rear wheels, went sideways a few feet, got traction and the 300 never caught up. The guy wanted to try again and the same result. He never had a chance. Afterwards, he asked what mods I did to the car. I told him none. He was mad and called me a liar.

Later in the day, a guy with a 95 Z28 wanted to try me too and I told him no. He wanted to know what was faster. I agreed and same thing happend. Smoked my tires and the Z28. Geez, I smoked my tires! Drag racing stuff!

My car never broke a sweat in 102 degree heat today. I am impressed.
I love this car. I REALLY love my car.

So, change you wires and plugs on a regular interval and inspect in between.

By the way, the plugs I put in are Bosch 2s. Couldn't find Motorcraft or Autolites in my immediate area. Dealers wanted $220 for the wires and $30 for a set of Motorcraft plugs. I went to Autozone and got the Bosch 2s for $32 and the wires for $89.99 with a warranty.

RE: Why you should change your spark plugs and wires regular

I just replaced my wires with Motorcraft wires. The stealer wanted $199.99. A distributor here in Birmingham, AL sold the same wires to me for $89.13. I did buy the Motorcraft platinum plugs because I don't want to change them again for a long time.

Why would you buy stock replacements when the MSD wires are only $90 for the set from summit racing.::wtf::

or the "ford racing wires" from Max at Fivestar for 96.00.

After my 3rd set of MSD's failing {2 replaced under warranty}
I decided to go a different route.

It seemed that on or about my 3rd plug change my car would develop a miss/hesitation.

not wanting to believe it was my less than a year old MSD wires, but after exchanging them with new ones.. no miss stutter or dying.

MSD=misses stutters and dies

THIS is my experience with them
{your experience with MSD my differ}

I read that at one time there was an issue with the MSD Cobra wires but that has been resolved.

{Knock on wood}
Mine have caused no issues.

RE: Why you should change your spark plugs and wires regular

Tiff got 100K on her set..bought in 2001

I got lucky to get 50K out of a set on all sets I bought after 2001.

Seemed to be related to the "amount of times" I changed the plugs, something along the lines of the core of the plug wire getting brittle and breaking over time and many MANY heat cycles.

I'd bet that if the wires were put on the car and left alone, they probably wouldn't have gone bad in such a short time
{short time for me is my normal 50,000 miles a year)

This is guestimation/speculation only based on personal experience.

Not sure if it was specific to my car, but they seem to relish arcing through the wire to a ground point - engine, body, etc. It has been very important for me to route and harness the wires correctly.

RE: Why you should change your spark plugs and wires regular

I'd say the problem is the 8.5 mm MSD wires being forced into the 8mm stock looms. If you're not careful, the extra force can tear the outter MSD jacket, causing an eventual miss. The wires are packed darn tight in the valve covers and up over the alternator. No issues with mine.

Mine were arcing through straight to the valve cover...no where near the looms.
