Window and Door lock problem!!!

A few months ago I went to roll down my windows on the passanger and driver side. When i pushed the button the windows didn't roll down and all the door panel lights went out. When I let the button go they all came back on as normal. At the same time my door locks quit working well, sometimes they open ok and sometimes they open very slowly or not at all. My remote also has problems getting the doors to unlock and lock. The outside touch pad has also quit working to unlock the doors but still works to pop the trunk. Does anyone have any idea WTF is goin on??

Sounds like you have a problem with the wiring harness through the driver’s door. I would pull the door panel and inspect the wiring to make sure it didn't wear down the insulation over time and is now grounding out on the door panel.

If one is shorted, BOTH sides are shorted.

What year/model vehicle do you have...I'm assuming it is a Mark VIII. Please fill out your Public Profile and no one will have to ask again. Thanks

Fords (FLM) are well know for having lousy door lock/window switches. As in the previous post, you may want to look at this site for a self repair. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/447449-power-door-locks-fixed.html

...or if you aren't comfortable doing this, replace all 4 switches with new ones.

Sounds like an electrical problem to me too, try opening your door and grabbing the harness where it passes from the door to the car and moving it around. See if this changes anything or fixes it. This will save you a bit of time pulling the door panel, also check your fuses....if one is blown it will point you in the right direction.

Would that affect both doors? The locks/window controls don't work on either door.

Yes it would as others have stated. I would also check some fuses at this point because they may be blown. This would give you a good hint as to what circuit has the break in it.

Awsome, thank you guys. BTW I have a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC (Black with tan interior and moon roof).

You're welcome :) Post some pics of your Mark VIII we'd love to see it.

Jesse- You know I'm not like that. (looks for red button)
