Does anyone know if Accel 8MM wires are any good as compared to MSD or FMS ones? The local autoparts store has them part number Accel 5141

RE: Wires

Personally I would go with the MSD wires. I have never tried the accel wires, but I do not like the FMS wires. I have had some dead motorsport wires. Never a problem with the MSD's.

RE: Wires

Eh, the Accels have 550ohms/ft resistance and the MSDs have 50/ft. Hmmm, let me think about that one. Anyone ever tried a DIS-4 system? Also FMS has 0 nada warrenty, whereas MSD is 1yr.

RE: Wires

I've used Accel 300+ wires on my Bronco for the several years and they seem top be a good quality wire. Never had any problems.

RE: Wires

Ive had problems with the MSD wires in the past but I think they fixed it.( I hope) The wires would pop out of the hole and off of the plug.
If it happens while squeezing nitrous the problem is amplifide 10 fold.Ask me how I know!!!

RE: Wires

Sounds like hole in intake time.

Many people have used a DIS 4 on their mark VIII/cobra's. What do you want to know about it.

RE: Wires

As I understand it a MSD is better because it does as its named, Multiple Spark Discharge. And I assume a stock setup is only 1 spark. Question is how much difference does it make. I know 2 people that I put a MSD 6 system on their car. One Honda Civic, the other a '91 Chevy Camaro, and it seemed to make a hellofa difference. But our car is a DIS system, so would the difference be noticable at all? Second question, the guy with the Camaro has another that he wants a box on, but was considering a Holley Anniahlator Crane HI-6, or Mallory Hyfire. Are all the boxes comparable to MSD? Thanks!

RE: Wires

I have a MSD6A in my '69 351C Mustang. I don't know if it helps performance wise, but I will say I saw God when I got Arched one time.

RE: Wires

THe DIS 4's are good units when they work. I have not killed one, but I know many cobra guys that have gone through a handfull of them. I think MSD solved the problem though. As of lately I have not heard many people complain about their DIS 4's and tach adapters. They seem a little more reliable nowadays.

On a slightly modified car I am sure it would help out a little bit. How many hp can be had I do not know.

HOWEVER on car running forced induction they are the thing to have. Significant hp can be had due to a more agressive tune due to better spark and reduced spark blowout.

The one thing I was impressed with was the bypass adapter. If the unit fails you can always pull out your bypass adapter and run with stock spark. So it will not leave you stranded.
