Wood Wheel

So I was looking at the rides section of the page and as ususal I found myself admiring the 98' CE's. It got me to thinking, I'm sure that getting one of the wood wheels from a CE would be impossible, but I wonder if there were any nice wood wheels from say Continentals or Town Cars that would fit. Has anyone ever tried to do this? I'm sure that such a part could be easily found in a Junkyard, I guess the question is whether or not it would fit and what kind of BS airbag problems the swap would entail. Any Feedback?

I dont know of any wheel that would interchange. From the older days I remember some very nice aftermarket wood wheels but I doubt that they make then for a Mark.

There are companies that will take your present wheel and add the wood. I know of a guy here on LI that does this custom steering wheel work, he even can make wood shifters for the Mark.

That sounds like it could be ok Leo, but this is my daily driver, so even though I could drive out to LI, I couldnt leve the guy with my wheel! Same deal with the shifters? You gotta leave it?

Buy a cheap $25 steering wheel send the other one out... put new one back on...

The adding of the wood won't be cheap either... several hundred $ if i remember correctly.

Its really the only option if you want a Gen 1 wood wheel.... unless you're crazy and buy a CE wheel, cut out the gen 2 center and weld in the gen 1 center and get it recovered in new leather... lol

just for laughs I'm checking on the price from this local guy. I'll post them when I hear back from him.

Sorry I haven't been around on my own thread, I had some minor surgery. I'm good now, though, and still want a wood wheel! No one seems to have actually addresssed my initial query about Continental and Town Car wheels. I know those T.C. "Cartier" editions have some awesome wheels. You'd hafta think the hub would be the same, now the airbag and cruise, that might be a different story. On a similar note, what about these wood dash kits? I was checking for them and there is like 20 different kinds out there ranging in price from like $150 to $350. I really think a nice wood wheel and matching dash kit is a nice upgrade cuz' you get to enjoy it daily, and it should help resale value. Anybody use any of these kits out there?
