Though some critics argue that UAW members get paid too much for simply building cars, we should remember that such a task is actually complicated and can be quite dangerous. We are reminded of this sober fact today after learning that a Ford worker was killed this morning in an accident on the final assembly line at Ford's Wayne Stamping and Assembly Plant where the Focus is built. This past week the plant was celebrating the first run of 2008 Ford Focus cars off the line with Ford CEO Alan Mulally and other execs in attendance for the event.

The Detroit News has still been unable to ascertain the exact nature of the accident, but Ford did say that the plant was immediately shut down the day shift cancelled. Work is expected to resume in a couple of hours around 5:30 PM EST. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the worker killed this morning.
