I was pondering the idea of it as I have a wife and 2 children and I like to d

Hmm...

Hmm...

I dunno... if you're talking no cash, straight up trade, for a brand new marauder, i think i'd do it in a heartbeat. Who knows if i'd turn around and sell it, buy another mark and a blower. :)

RE: Hmm...

RE: Hmm...

No - but I did for a Town Car. I looked at & drove the Marauder. It didn't move me. Too flat seats in front, ugly beige stitching on not quite black seats. Looked like a cop car with nice wheels. Lacked refinement in ride. Keep the Mark or spring for a Townie :)

Mark VIII & Town Car = Prime Rib of Roast Beef & White Chablis
Marauder = Hamberger DeLuxe & a R/C Cola

RE: Hmm...

Let's say the dollars are even - so it's a trade of one ride for the other.

Man, that's honestly a tough call. My gut tells me that Mark VIIIs will be worth more as collector cars some day - and I like the styling on a Mark VIII more - but the cool "Boy Racer" "Muscle Car" feel of the Mercury would be tempting.

It would depend totally on my mood at the moment.

Now - if the dollar difference were taken in - I'll drive the Mark VIII thanks - even given the value of the "newer" one I have.

RE: Hmm...

Would I trade my 6.5 year old, 79,000 mile Mark for a new Marauder.................of course. Only because its worth 2.5 times what my car is.

RE: Hmm...

RE: Hmm...

Let me restate ( more clearly) what I am talking about.

Not even up... I would trade in the Mark for the Marauder. Main reason is the 4 doors. Dont get me wrong I love my Mark , it is becoming less practical as the kids get older.

I am not able to keep it just to have fun with it , it needs to be functional too.

Just an FYI.

RE: Hmm...

The problem with a Marauder is that first thing you need to do is add a blower. A car with a supposed "performance" image should not be able to be beaten by an Accord.

RE: Hmm...

RE: Hmm...

What’s wrong with the new Accord? 240Hp 6-speed V6?
6.3Secs isn’t bad; I don’t think we should still use it as a scale for a slow car anymore.

I think the point was that Ford's "performance" sedan can be bested (or be given a good run) by Honda's economy car out of the box. Doesn't sound so "performance" oriented when you put it in that light.

Nope, the rear does have the bags for load leveling only.

You could have done it yourself for much cheaper and it doesnt take long. On my 94 I had it took about 1 hour for the first side ( as I was being anal and making sure I was comfortable with it, the other side took 30 minutes. Did the front for less than $450.

no way.....

no way.....

no way my car already smokes a marauder and its totally paid for. went and test drove one at lincoln dealership and wasnt impressed at all. it floats too much and feels like a bigger baot than the mark...I do like the lights though...lol 95mark with "special NON HID option" ;-) still looking though for a deal......

RE: no way.....

There is no way that I would trade my beloved Collector's Edition for a Marauder. But, I would have seriously considered trading my '97 for one after having driven one with 4.10's and a Dennis chip in it. It was truly impressive with no other mods.

Those cars are much more nimble than they look. Mercury has done a marvelous job with the suspension. I wouldn't autocross one, but for a daily driver, its a hoot!

With a 150 shot, you could slam some rice holes shut on your way to dinner.

I'm trying to talk one of my best friends into getting one. He's not a Lincoln guy, but he loves old Fords. I just have to convince him that old Fords were once new.
