WOW !!! ( Check engine and OD off lights.)

Last night my Mark's engine would surge and lose power(It never shut down) the transmission would shift into 2nd or 3rd and the check engine and od off lights would flicker. When it recovered ,after about 15 secs of this foolishness, the engine responded normally. There were no electrical hiccups or anything, the cruise control stayed on and the stereo continued to play.Could it have been just a drink of water or somthing waiting to come back and disable the car in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. Thanks in advance.

RE: WOW !!! ( Check engine and OD off lights.)

Check for stored codes. If none, my guess(es):

Electrical:
Check the PCM engine harness connector under the hood. Just to the right of the brake reservoir - a square top about 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" with a center bolt.

Fuel:
Check fuel filter/pump.

Ignition:
Check coils/wires/plugs.

Well I finally got my Mark in to get the codes read, and they were as follows;EO-511(memory gone),CM-113,117,118,176,ER113,332.The EO-511 was the big one as it meant a new computer. Now for the good news,it turned out that the problem was coming from the piggyback chip from a company that we have all seen on TV and in magazines.Once it was removed the car runs fine,so far. Thanks again for your'e help.

RE: WOW !!! ( Check engine and OD off lights.)

Doesn't code 511 usually appear with any aftermarket chip? I thought I read that somewhere.

I don't know but I put over 100 miles on the car yesterday with no problems.I'm going to take it back to the shop that read the codes and see what is there now.
