WTB-full front seat heaters

Not likely I know, but here goes: I'm trying to find a full set of OEM seat heaters for a '97 LSC (i.e. upper and lower, driver and passenger). Basically trying to convert a non-heated to a heated seat. Already got the switches and I can get the wiring, but can't find the actual pads (tried aftermarket, but they're not compatible with OEM switches). Any help would be appreciated...

You need more than the heating elements. You need a control module that's in the seat bottom plastic part, just under foam, one for each seat. Also, the only thing you need from the heating elements is a thermistor that tells the control unit to shut off the power when they get hot enough, kind of like a thermostat. We actually used the aftermarket heating elements with the original thermistor wired in. Fun Fun Fun ! lol

Huh, didn't think that was doable. So are you still using the stock controls too? If so, some details would be very appreciated. I can get a set of the "carbon fiber" heating elements for about $150/set, but the tech answering the phone said they will NOT work with the stock control switches. I can get the wiring and control unit from a local boneya...er...I mean automotive parts recycling dealership. But I'd rather not use a used element if I can help it...

Yes, I wired the stock controls in. The heating element is just a coil, no difference between stock and aftermarket. The OEM elements have a second circuit that has a thermistor between coils, and the stock module looks for that. Otherwise the system might be sending voltage to the coils all the time, and burn them up. I had an extra set of foams with oem elements available, but the coil part was bad. I just wired the thermistor part, while using aftermarket coil on top of it.

I hope Joe doesn't mind (it was his car ;)) .... some pics here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/577501610GpWYTN

Hey mad, so you used the oem thermo with an aftermarket element?

Yes, aftermarket elements, everything else was factory correct... :D

Jeremi even have all the factory wiring... so if you pulled a seat, it would look completely original...

He's like a magical mark8 wizard or something... :p
