if all else fails, just cut that off. I'll give you a bicycle gear-shifter that you can mount to the dashboard, and connect to that lever via a cable. it'll be *awesome*

It doesn't matter what end you slot the link since it's identical on both ends. But you want to install the slotted end on the gray lever side. There may be some interference issues with having the slot on the black lever. Tixer's pic is basically correct.
