Xcal Issue

I just got my Xcal2 that I ordered from Lonnie today. Got home and went to upload the tune and it says something along the lines of ECM unlock failed. I've tried the fuel pump relay and relay fuse, cant find the electric fan fuse (cd inclued with xcal said to pull both to upload). I'd call Lonnie but he's closed. If I don't get it working by tomorrow I'll give him a call in the morning. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with theirs, and if so how is it solved?

I'm not sure if it would matter with an Xcal2, but has the PCM been reflashed anytime prior? I've heard of this being an issue with some programmers. There should be a recertification sticker somewhere if it has been reflashed.

Driller, I don't know, I bought used and all I was told was it was completely stock. Would the sticker be on the pcm? I saw somewhere else it might be under the hood. I'll have to go look, I'm also gonna check to make sure it doesn't have a chip, although I'm pretty positive it doesn't.

Yea, I'm gonna call him in the morning. Just wondering if anyone else had similar problems and it was a simple fix. I've been searching, and someone on TCCoA has the exact same problem. Lonnie sent him another tune, with his code, just to make sure. Didn't work. Lonnie checked the xcal itself and didnt work. So he sent the guy a chip, which wasnt working right. I guess Lonnie just found out that theres some new software and this has been happening to some other people. I know Lonnie will get it all worked out, I was just really looking forward to having some fun tonight :)

Just checked and didn't see anything. I'll look again in the daylight tomorrow as well as pull the pcm and look for a chip.

Probably one of SCT's "ill thought out" updates, which has been happening alot lately.

It's not just the SCT dealers having problems, there are alot of SCT users having issues with their software lately.

When the first round of "bad updates" began to show up, I turned OFF my update software and haven't updated since before chrismtmas..

Poor Lonnie...(shakes head) First the internet trolls screw with him, now..SCT software screw ups from SCT... CRAAAAAP.

Hang in there Jbird, Lonnie knows what is happening, and SCT knows what is happening.
They'll get you all "tuned" up sir.. no worries.

Haha yea I know. I'm just so anxious. It finally came and... damn your updates SCT.

Lol, well I just woke up, time to check for a few things and give Lonnie a call.

damn your updates SCT.
.

yea I gave em (SCT) an ear full this morning about their crappy updates...(lol)
And that they shut down the ProRacer Forum.. "again".

There's buttloads of good info in there, including very useful posts from Jerry himself.
Since Jerry left SCT the information river has turned into a "muddy ditch".

Tech guy at SCT told me that "IF" your software is running right, then there is "no need" to run the updates???!!!

I gave him a good tounge lashing for "TRYING" to give me "BAD" information.

YOU HAVE TO UPDATE the SCT software due to a "burn counter" that needs to be reset.
Couldnt' believe the guy was giving me information that "I" knew for a fact was BOGUS.

*shakes heads*
WHERE DO THEY FIND THESE GUYS?
Homeless shelters?

Lonnie told me to send it back to him. Got the xcal shipped out. He said he has had 5 people that were affected, I was the last of which. He said him and other dealers aren't too happy with sct. Seems like they made an update and didn't tell anyone about it.

They aren't really good at updating private owners, but I would only do a complete dyno with any upgrade. You have some good references to go to locally if needed.

I'm really sorry for all the incontinences that those this affected are going through. I brought up the problem directly with the executive staff of SCT. When I first found the problem, the techs assume that it's the dealer or person doing the tuning so this problem snowballed. Because of the outrage all of us dealers are experiencing including not able to reach tech or get software problems resolved we posted our complaints on the SCT forum. SCT didn't like this and for now has shut done their forums.

The problem is with the updates. When SCT tried to build a temp. work around it caused more encrypted errors in the software. We as dealers have no way of know this until a tune doesn't work. Those that don't do mail order have better luck. When the tune doesn't work they have the vehicle there in order to conduct their own trouble shooting. Where as the mail order programs that go out don't find out until the customer calls. Then long distance trouble shooting begins and that's no fun.

This has been a major set back for me. I've been doing nothing for the past couple weeks but trying to recover from this and testing to ensure I have some type of software that will work and or device.

All the devices that I programmed with curtain software updates have failed to work. Then I've found that they also affected the XCal 2 and 3 devices. I sent one XCal 2 back to SCT and they found nothing wrong with it. This cost me to have them check each device out by the way. That same device was then reprogrammed and shipped out only to fail again. Now the question is and SCT can't answer this is does the corrupt software cause something in device's firmware to fail and then cause the device not to recognize the EEC? Or do we also have bad devices or firmware. I can't get a straight answer and of course I'm still getting some blame that either the customer is giving me the wrong EEC code or I'm building the programming incorrectly. Not so when I have email from the vice president of the company admitting there's a problem with the updates.

I can only assume that the rest of the forums are shut down because of the out cry over all the problems lately.

The person on TCCoA that was mentioned in this thread; he sold his chip and wrote this experience off as a learning event. I've lost several other customers and a shop I tuned for over this, I'm not happy.

I've got 3 computers with 3 different updates so I'm doing the best I can right now to put out something that works. This means each XCal 2 and chip has to be programmed for a test vehicle and then test driven first to ensure the device and software works in order for me to get you people a product that works, than that's what I have to do.

I had 3 other dealers contact me just this morning that ran the most recent update from SCT in hopes the latest one was the fix. But there's still problems. Hopefully this gets taken care of soon.

Last time the ProRacers complained on the SCT board they shut it down.

Now the SCT dealers complained and they locked everyone out.

When I spoke with SCT about the forums and the update issue, they said.
"updates are fine"

"message board will be back up"

Guess I got the regular run-around from the tech...
*shakes head*

Wow, that sucks that they (sct) aren't cooperating, and blaming things on the dealers. I guess this is why the sct forums were "down for maintenance". Hopefully people realize its not the dealers faults and stay with them. I know you'll get this all figured out, and things take time, especially when you now have to try to figure out the software with no help from sct.

but then here we are.

Absolutely correct, and it's not like there's a "better" tuning solution out there either.

It's kind of like some of the best placed to eat around here, it seems that "the better the food is, the crappier the service becomes".

They are like "we're allowed to suck, because we're the best!".

Recently they have been doing a good job of "sucking".

no one up there has a head that can fill the "J" Hat, and it's beginng to show.

Wonder what happens when SCT folds, and our "burn counters reach zero"?
Dum..dum..dumdum

The burn counter needs to go away. It should be up to the company or person if and when they want to run an update.

I agree, completely.

I'm pretty sure this whole screwed up scene happened because of the problems they were having with Vista...

Bad thing is.. the updates affect everyone, even those that aren't running that crappy new OS...

Coupled with them wanting to eliminate the PRP users from "exporting LL3 and XTR" files.

Both of which I have "no use for"....
YET.. they want to break my software to keep me from "maybe exporting an LL3 file".

I really dont understand that whole scenario.. I mean.. LL3's are LOCKED FILES..
What difference would it make if one was exported...especially since "I" an writing my own tunes.

I know they are having some issues with "some users" like "that guy" you were telling me about..
IF that is the case, then they should "disable his dongle".. or turn off HIS racer code.
Instead of crippling the software for "everyone", which makes no sense whatso ever.

That burn counter really pisses me off... actually.

I paid for my license, I signed the EULA, why should/would they care if I reburn my chip 100 times or a 1000 times.

The "tool" I spoke to at SCT last week said "no one" should use up 100 burns.

WTF? I have no datalogging solution, so I have to use "trial and error" with my tune.
Consider the 900 or so parameters in PRP.. and I can EASILY burn up 100 burns in less than a month.

I probably put 500 burns on my chip in the first 6 months.. trial and error.

Just found out that the latest update will inform you after your update that you black and white dongle will no longer work for any future updates. I don't know if they are going to charge us for new dongles or not though.

I don't know anything about the .xtr or .ll3 being removed from the PRP, this is the first I heard of it. It may have something to do with those with PRP are tuning others vehicles by this method and they want to put a stop to it because it takes from their profits besides their dealers. I do know it's happening, I've seen it and have caught people doing it at the track. The .ll3 files can be locked to a specific XCal 2, 3 or Live Wire only if that function is enabled. All my mail order programs where they have a device already are locked to that customer's device's serial number. This way they can't share it or sell it to others like what has been done in the past and with the .xtr files.

Now "THAT" completely blows...

When I got PRP, they sold me 2.9, then within two months of the purchase they forced me to upgrade to 3.0 (buy the 100.00 dongle ect)

NOW, the dongle they sold me is not gonna be supported any longer?
Less than a year later?

That really sucks, because they marked up the price of the dongle 300%
The cost of the rockysmart dongle is 25.00!

The "warm fuzzy feeling" is quickly wearing off...

picks up the phone and calls SCT
