Yay for Auto-X....

On Sunday the 15th of May, I went to my first Auto-X event ever. All I can say is it was a blast. There is another one coming up on the 5th of June here that I plan on attending and I can't wait.

The course was ~.8 miles long. The event was held at the MNDOT Testing station in St. Cloud, Minnesota and was put on by the NCCC and Suburban Corvette's. The fastest cars out there were turning 0:57.XX times, these included a Formula Spec V and a Porsche Carrera GT4. My best time of the day was a 1:10.88, which I think is pretty good (I think) considering that first right hand turn you had to come to almost a complete stop (I couldn't go through it at more than 10 MPH). I'd say I did pretty good for my first time out in a 2 ton car. My gears deffinately helped me to get out of the corners. Fastest I got going was 65-70 MPH in the straightaways (which is at the top of 2nd gear in my car).

I'm addicted...hooked...excited.

So, where's the best place to order swaybars from? }(

RE: Yay for Auto-X....

Cool deal. I've considered the same but the closest facility is about 3 hours away and their schedule is usually booked months in advance. Tough to accomodate with my schedule.

Somehow though I can't imagine pushing the envelope with the Mark VIII to the limits I used to push a 70's Chevelle in my younger years. :9

RE: Yay for Auto-X....

Oh I dunno....if you compare the seat time in each compared ot how often I've broken something....I'd say it's probably about equal. Then again, maybe I'm just hard on my cars.

RE: Yay for Auto-X....

I always wanted to set my old Mark up to do either road courses or auto-x. Looks like sway bars are the next mod :)

wow talk about someone I haven't seen on here in a while!! How are you doign strapp?? Yea your car DEFINATELY needs some sway bars, front and rear if you are going to be doing auto-x on a regular basis.

I'm good, just thought I'd check in to see how the old crew was doing :)

RE: Yay for Auto-X....

New rear swaybar will be ordered soon as I cracked mine on my last adventure to that track on June 5th. Luckily thats all I broke.

You'd be suprised though...the Neon SRT-4's and such seem to have more bodyroll than a Mark VIII does.

RE: Yay for Auto-X....

yea I hear ya, I just ordered motor mounts, so I bit the bullet and ordered a front sway bar along with the rear one I won in the raffle too. I really want to do headers but it's just not in the budget right now.
