Yokohama AVS ES100

I'm still doing research on what tires to get for my car. I'm 99% sure going to get Nitto NT555R drag radials for the back, but what goes up front is pretty much up in the air. Drag radials all around would get a little too pricy for me, esp, when they start wearing out. The Yokohama AVS ES100 is one tire i'm looking at for the front.

Does anyone have any experience with these tires? I read some of the reviews on tire rack and they seemed to be well liked. The price is right, too.

First let me say your MARKVIII looks great, nice and low. I just got done reading the thread from Dec. 20. One of your replies linked to a post I made (before I knew what was what) over there, and I admit I have no experience with the Nitto or the ES100, but I have had these Firehawk SZ50's and think they are perfect for this car. I have the OEM Octastar rims and I do run 255/50 Z-16 at all 4 corners, even lowered a little bit by sensor mods., no rubbing.

The Firehawk SZ50 is such a sticky tire, it surprised me how planted to the road the car felt. They look great on the car and I can hardy wait to take off my snow tire wheel combo and put the SZ50 back on for spring. Tire rack survey on this tire is first in it catagory as you know. I understand drag slicks would work better for you, so I guess I recommend the Sz for the front and really go where you point it.

For those who need real snow tires, I put 4 225/60 16 Blizzak WS-50. Now I can drive my MARK VIII year round with as much traction tires can give.

Good luck making the tire choice, let me know if I can answer any SZ questions.

I recently installed Magnaflow mufflers (see my post in Exaust) and the tire/tailpipe looks flatter each other somehow. People seem to like it.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

I've got the Yoko AVS ES100s on my 93 and I love them. My only complaint is that they suck in the snow, not that that is a big problem here in OK. They hook extremely well. I used to have Conti Extremes and ran a 3.73 rear gear. It would kick sideways on the 1-2 shift. I put the AVS ES100s on while I was upgrading my ring & pinion to 4.3s. Now on the 1-2 shift, the nose lifts HARD, but it doesnt really break the tires loose. So to sum it up, I get better traction with the Yokos and 4.3s than I did with the Contis and 3.73s. I found that impressive as hell. I swear by these tires. They are extremely quiet, better tread life than I expected, and handle the rain and twistys with the best of them. Not to mention, they are sexy as hell. For the price, the AVS ES100 is hard to beat.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

The only reason i probably won't be getting the Firestones now, is that i can't get them at the same place i can get the Nitto drag radials for the rear.

Really, right now i'm either going to go with 4 drag radials, and when they get about half worn, get 2 or 4 regular tires and keep the DR's around for track duty, OR, i'll get 2 DR's now and 2 regular tires, and replace the DR's as needed. I think for the regular tires the Yoko's (or the SZ50's) are a good choice.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

After hearing what was said about the nitto nt450's I was looking at other tires and thought these would be pretty good. Looks like they are, I'll probably be putting these all around in the near future when I'm ready to take the winter tires and rims off. What kind of mileage do you think can be seen out of these with normal driving?

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

Dave get the DRs for the back and try the Nitto 555s for the front. At least they will all be the same brand.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

The only 16" size for the non-DR 555's is 205/45 ZR16. The rest are 17's through 22's. An obvious first choice, but they don't make them in my size.

I think i'm down to either 4 DR's or the ES100's for the front.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

If you can get a deal on a set of 4 of each kind (instead of just 2) I need new tires too. I'm up for 555R, but the front we would have to discuss.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

I decided I'm going with the ES100's. I found a good price too, $84 each =). I've read a lot of great reviews about these tires so I'm going to try them out.

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

I have the Yoko AVS Es100's on my '98 too. They do suck in the snow. Byut next year, I plan on getting snow tires, so I'm not as worried about that. I absolutely love the Yoko's except that they don't help me much after it snow' here in MN

RE: Yokohama AVS ES100

I've had a set on mine for about 6 months now. They look really cool which is a plus. Also, handle good. I try not to push my car too much, but when I do they are there and predictable. As to hooking, my car will still go sideways on a manual 1-2 shift at 6500 rpm. That is an extreme situation, usually I just let it shift by itself. For less than $100, they are a screamin' deal.
