    Howdy!

Just checking in and had to say WOW! What a difference!! Great job on the website redesign! It's going take me awhile to get caught up on all the threads--without opening any old wounds, could anyone give me a "top 10" list of things that have transpired over the past year? Looking forward...

Removed front air silencer = better idle?

Hmm - interesting replies, everyone. Here's another theory - my car has always idled smoother in cold weather than in hot. The weather has cooled off considerably since I removed the silencer. Guess I'll have to wait until next July to rule out Mother Nature as the culprit! :)

Removed front air silencer = better idle?

As the title suggests, I removed the air silencer (under the front bumper) when I replaced my air compressor. Ever since, my car has idled much smoother. Not sure if there's a cause and effect relationship there - has anyone else has experienced this? My Mark must like the extra airflow. :)

    Sears Tires

You have 78-series 15" bias ply tires. Here's a good site you can use to match your old bias ply tires to the "modern" radials: http://www.carnut.com/specs/tires.html If you want to upgrade to radials, the 235/75R15 probably will be your best bet.

When are new rear shocks needed?

How are your rear shock mounts? If you hear clunking in the rear or the shock mounts are shedding rubber, I'd replace both shocks and mounts at the same time. (That's what I did at around 90k, since my mounts were going.) There was a noticeable difference, but it probably was attributable to...

    Hacked

That's despicable, Stanley. Some people have absolutely no moral compass whatsoever.

Good sleuthing there, Craig. I'm impressed! Now, what on earth was a dumbbell doing in the middle of the road?!

    Using mid-grade gas

I use mid-grade in the winter ONLY. If I use anything less than 91 in the summer when it's 80+ outside, I can hear mild detonation (pinging) - especially when ascending hills.

    Why am I running hot?

Quote Quote...My gauge always has fluctuated with the seasons. Also -- get this -- the car actually runs cooler with the AC on! ::wtf:: The fan automatically comes on at low speed with the AC system active. AH! That explains it. :)

    Why am I running hot?

Quote A thermostat is a very crude control device. It works well when the radiator is properly sized for the heat load.if the radiator is marginally sized, the engine will heat up with the thermostat fully open when the engine is being run hard.My gauge always stays on A or L since the...

    Why am I running hot?

I don't know if it's possible in our Marks, but I distinctly remember that someone once called in on a tech line complaining that he couldn't get the engine hot enough to open the t-stat. (I think he was running an aluminum 4-core radiator, two electric fans and HD oil and trans coolers.)...

    Why am I running hot?

I used to work for the second largest antifreeze/coolant producer and shipper in the world. 50/50 (or no higher than 65 antifreeze/35 water in very cold climates) is the best year-round concentration. If you really feel the need to have a "summer" coolant and a "winter" antifreeze, you can...

Looking for a used four door

No problem, Bill. I was just giving you guff. :) BTW - The paint is still surprisingly shiny in most places. I'm thinking of taking an autobody/painting class at a community college so I can learn how to paint - and repaint the Mark on the cheap. ;)

Looking for a used four door

Bill, you're making me feel guilty. I've only hauled 2x6s and cedar boards on top of the mark. (And I've got the brown scuffs to prove it!) :o Thanks for all of the advice - I think I'm going to check out a few Towncars this weekend. I'm curious if I'll feel the HP difference (as compared to...

Looking for a used four door

Hi there gang, Well, the Mark's about to turn 140k. It needs a real window seal and a repaint, too, so it's been officially relegated to commuter and household use. (Did you know that you can stack six 16' 2 by 6's on top of the Mark? Pretty handy.) At any rate, I'm looking for a powerful...
