A visit with an old friend.

Reminds me of a friend's experience with a Buick Reatta. He owned the car for about a year, and traded it in on a '93 Seville. Another year later, he moved 150 miles away. He found his old Reatta sitting at a car lot about 5 miles from his new house. That was weird!

    Oil Change Reminder Intervals

As a side note, how long often does it tell everyone to change their oil? I'm wondering how much variance it dials in based on driving conditions, etc. Right now mine's at 50% remaining, 2100 miles since last reset. I drive about 80% stop and go, 20% highway. I don't thrash it at every light...

    Anti-Theft system going nuts!

I unplugged the alarm module today, and sure enough the only thing that was affected is the alarm itself. Starts fine, remote & keypad keyless entry work fine, and everything. Problem solved, for the time being. One thing I noticed.. My blower motor makes an intermittent clicking noise (sounds...

    Anti-Theft system going nuts!

Thanks for the help. It did pass that test; setting it off with the panic button and turning the car on made it stop. It's dark out now but I'll check the hood switch and reset the battery tomorrow, hopefully that does the trick! I have to drive with the headlights on all the time now in case...

    Anti-Theft system going nuts!

I was driving in a really bad rainstorm yesterday and the anti-theft light started flashing. It shut off after about 5 minutes, but ever since it will come on intermittently as I'm going down the road. And sometimes if I lock it with the keyless entry, it'll set the alarm off out of the blue...

Coke 2 to be released soon!

God that Pepsi Blue was disgusting. It tasted like you were drinking a cheap air freshener. Jones Soda has been around since the mid-90s or so in western Maryland, Sheetz convenience stores (god I miss those!) always carried it. I liked the green apple. They have juices too, the Starbucks in...

Coke 2 to be released soon!

There's a surprising amount of soft drink interest/knowledge among Mark VIII owners. Whoda thunk it? ;) I tried C2 today. Not bad, tasted like about 1/4rd Diet Coke mixed with 3/4ths regular.

    AXODE Transmission Q's

I'm 90% sure a 3.8 Taurus transaxle would work. However, you might be better off getting a rebuild if you're going to keep the car any length of time. 1991 was the first year they added electronic controls to the AXOD, and they made an already crappy tranny even worse. There are a lot of...

    Beep noise from glovebox area

Does your airbag light come on when you first start the car? A Ford tech told me that the airbag module will beep if a major fault is detected, or if it has any fault and the airbag light is burned out. A friend of mine replaced the dash in his '91 Taurus, and the airbag module beeped because he...

    Rear Brake Surprise

I've done a bunch of rear disc brake jobs on Fords. The best trick I've found is to remove the caliper and disc, then loosely bolt the caliper back in place to hold it still. Then use a set of big needlenose pliers to engage the notches in the piston while pushing and cranking it in.

    Wrecked the Conni

Quote Glad to hear your okay! That's why i drive a big car. I'd hate to have anything happen to my car, but if it did, i'd hate to have anything happen to me or my passengers. Exactly. Considering that our Marks weigh more than a Grand Cherokee but have the handling ability of a car, I feel...

    I"m getting frustrated.

700 sounds a bit high, especially if that's in gear. Mine idles at just a hair over 500.

Anything special about replacing control arms?

When I changed them on my '93 Cougar, I remember the rearmost driver-side bolt was a pain in the ass, but it was nothing my dad and I weren't able to accomplish without a normal set of sockets/wrenches/extensions and a moderate amount of cussing.

Horn and hazard lights don't work

Ever since I got my Mark, the horn and hazard flashers haven't worked. I haven't gotten around to taking it back to the dealer where I bought it, but I'm going to have a talk with them. I bought it as-is, but it supposedly went through their used-car inspection. I'd think those would be two...

Mark VIII Replacement Road Test Series:PT 1

If you could stand to drive a Honda, the V6 Accord Coupe isn't bad. I drove one with the 6-speed manual, it had a lot of goodies such as a navigation system, dual-zone climate control, power everything, leather, etc. Really not a bad deal for $28k. Lots of power too, it runs 14.5 or so in the...

    Leather wrinkle removal

Since heat and water shrink leather, I'd imagine hovering over it with a steam iron might do the trick. But I think I'll just live with the few wrinkles my leather has. Has anyone tried such a thing?

    Got rid of those pinstipes!

My Mark came with these nasty white and silver pinstripes. The worst was on the spare tire hump, where pieces had been rubbed off from people closing the trunk. I was washing it today, and decided to take care of it once and for all. I came up with a technique for getting them off (mine were...

Went to the track, with Navi Cams.

What did the Turbo Coupe run? I have an '88 TC 5-speed with a K&N cone filter and the boost cranked up to 18 psi. It'd obliterate my '93 Mark off the line, but at speed it doesn't have a chance. It's a neat car, but when I look in my driveway and decide which car to drive, 9 times out of 10...

    Subframe braces

To those of you who installed subframe/front suspension braces, did it make a big difference? My Mark shudders and flexes quite a bit. It's tolerable normally, but things like cornering hard on a bumpy road seem to upset the chassis pretty severely. I've read a few posts where people said they...
