Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

I found a 2006 Police Interceptor engine with 102K for $500. Don't those make a little more power? Can I use it?

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Thanks Eric that's exactly how it feels. I'm still so stumped on this timing issue. Everything went together so smoothly, minus the huge chunk of my knuckle that got sliced off, and I expected it to be a done deal. This timing situation has been a nightmare. Is there a max year I shouldn't...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Guys this engine needs to die. Found a broken cam sprocket on the right side while trying to figure out why the valves are not in the right place when the timing marks are all aligned. That video was a great help. It showed intake and exhaust lobe location at TDC and this cam, when lobes are...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Guys I have been all over creation trying to get this thing timed. I know the procedure, heck it's practically idiot proof. It's still not right and I don't know why. Keyway at 10, timing marks at 6, that's TDC... I see this stuff in my sleep. Chains marked correctly. Cam sprockets on...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Tried everything and it still isn't timed right. Even put the cover and harmonic balancer on and put it on TDC. When the #1 is at the top and the chain marks on the intake lobe points pretty much straight down. Once the timings right I have only a couple hours before key turn. As promised here...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

I have made some great headway on this thing. I got the head off and like we all expected the valves were bent, all 4 intake valves, but the pistons were not busted. I got 4 new valves installed and I have the head back on the car. I'm doing (trying) to do the timing now. I had good timing...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

At this point it's personal. I'm learning SO much about these motors (was a pushrod kinda guy before this TC) and I'm loving it. I want to see those piston tops and if they're good a good head and timing parts are going on it and I'm betting it purrs. Definite piston impact. I got the followers...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

. . . Can we think of a way to verify these valves and pistons before I reassemble the valve train? I want to avoid pulling that head if I can. I was going to pull the other timing cover to see what the guides are looking like and I won't be surprised if they are worn. Thankfully they're cheap...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

All 4 followers are broke in the same place...on the lash side not the valve side.

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Damper position. - - - Updated - - - Cam lobe position on #1. First follower was off when the cover came up and I removed the second myself.

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Some more info I didn't put in the last post. The timing "seems" to be on or at least very close. I have all the plugs out and when I spin the motor with a socket it spins fully freely, fighting only the valve springs. The mark on the damper is set to the mark on the timing cover and the marks...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Well the engine deal fell thru. I decided to tear into this and see if this one can't be salvaged. Once I got the cam cover off (Holy Mother of God what is that evap doing there?!?) I found the 4th follower. It was also cracked very badly. The cam looks good and all the valves seem intact, at...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

. . . Thank God for experts. I know just enough to be dangerous but an expert I am not. After a lot of thinking I decided to go the engine swap route and I am so happy I did. Found a 06 4.6 with 79K for a whopping $250 or $150 after I sell my long block to someone else. I didn't feel comfortable...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

. . . Ironic you mention that. I thought the blown out plug I just fixed was the only problem it had. Fixed it and when there was only slight improvement went searching for more and boy did I find it. I can't do an engine swap for other reasons so even if it costs a couple hundred more this way...

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

. . . Thanks that gives me hope. I'll pull the head off tomorrow and see exactly where it's at. I just read a thread and everyone said they were able to reuse the shortblock even with dented pistons. I will post the findings.

. . . Thanks for the response. Can I change out the head and fix the timing issues and avoid swapping engines?

Forgot to mention that the followers I removed were broken like the end was forced up causing them to snap.

Help Please - 2000 TC Engine Problem

Hello everyone. New here and new to Lincoln ownership. Been a long time Ford lover but the TC is my first Lincoln. Planning on getting a Mark VIII eventually hence the username. I have a 4.6 2V that was apparently dead when I got the car. Did a comp check and had nothing on Bank 1 and useable...
