255s on stock 16s...

So my Michelin MXV4 "Bologna Skins" as they've been called, are just that. And almost as slimy, too, it feels like. I am looking at a new BFG tire, the g-force Sport COMP2 in a meaty 255/50-16. Falken makes a tire in the same size, sold by Discount Tire, but reviews are mediocre. Reviews (early as they are for a new tire) on TireRack are overwhelmingly positive for the new g-Forces. Granted they are a summer tire, but so far keeping 16s on the car aren't in the plans come fall anyways. Has anyone else looked at these in this overactive forum section...? ;)

Isn't 255 a bit wide for the stock rims for street use? I use to run a 255 drag radial but generally for straight line use only.

Back in 2011 I ran the 255-50-16 Mickeys on the 20-spoke stockers all year on the street. I think they're awesome, and if I lose a race, it wasn't because of traction issues. :p Beware of rain.

nice shiny mufflers. too bad the flowmasters i have aren't stainless steel =/ they're almost like a cross between an off white and gray, and i can see the rust on them (not a lot, just some on the edges)

I would argue it is not always about traction. Too narrow of a wheel for a tire changes the profile of the tire and adversely affects lateral handling of the vehicle.

I agree. Mine did "dish" a bit on the stock wheels the way they sat on there, but I didn't notice any lateral performance issues with them. I ran them at 30 psi and I've went WOT while taking a left hand turn (berserker moment:rolleyes:) which is how a can of degreaser flew across the trunk and shut my car down with the inertia switch. :p The Trac-Lok probably has a lot to do with the cornering stability in combination with the sticky tires.

I guess I can't say how it would be with 255s in a non-sticky tire and an "open" diff though.

[heeheeheeheeheeheeheehee...!]

Well probably the first upgrade I do after my front end work and driveshaft install will be trak-lok and 4.10s. I already just barely got a reply back from a local Craigslist seller of a used 8.8" LS from a '92 GT...

Let me correct myself.

With a posi, the car will grip better in a straight line. With an open diff, it will grip better in corners. I had it backwards.

It's a sloppy drifter on street tires. That's how I did a 360 in front of the mall one day on a nasty 1-2 shift going around a bend on the service road. :p
