84 Town car transmission doesnt go into overdrive.

Hi everyone i have a 1984 town car and the trans works great other than doesnt go into overdirve i think this is electrical is there a solonoid or a fuse any help would be great thank you.

I *hope* this is a simple fix.

If you crawl underneath the driver's side of the car with a can of wd-40 and a rag, you'll find a "lever" that sticks out of the side of the transmission, with a cable attached to it.

I believe one mechanic called it a "kick-down cable."

Yours is quite likely covered with grease, dirt, grass, leaves, small animals, or any combination of the above. Clean everything off, and lube it up, it should shift like new.

I have to do this on my '86 Town Car every few years.

I'm hoping the transmissions haven't changed much between '84 and '86..

They didn't start using the AOD-E (electric) until the late 90's. If the kick down cable adjustment doesn't fix it, it could be a burn OD bang or it may even be adjustable on that model. (AOD)

I like how you call "cleaning the gunk off" an "Adjustment." :D

I wonder if it worked. I kind of enjoy being the "antique lincoln" brain around here...
