96 LSC headlights

I'm re-doing some 96 LSC headlights. Got them apart, all sealant on lenses, and housings removed. All repairs done to housings. Here comes the nightmare, some IDIOT tried to clean the inside of the lense by going through the high beam hole. Sprayed something I think oil based, and tried wiping it with a rag and coathanger. Over 2 hours sanding the inside of the lense, and I only down to 1000 gritt. Started with 180. Looked like he was carving his name on the inside of the lense. Common sense wasn't with him that day. Good things take time.

In a way. Fixing something is like therapy, a real good feeling when your done, and the end product comes out great. Sitting in a nice warm workshop, tunes playing, a nice tottie sitting out of harms way, (don't want to knock it over) is very relaxing. Could be worse. HO HO HO Merry Christmas eve day.

Your shop sounds alot nicer than mine, mine has no heat in most of it... then again i do have alot of storage space

It's comfortable, heat, AC, complete kitchen, storage. The bad, it's in the basement, 7 steps up, and the rugged floor takes a beating. I'm a creature of comfort. You can do better work when your comfortable.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I get the same therapy from a lot of tedious and time consuming things I do too.

UPDATE: So here I am sanding the inside of the lense, all the way to 7K gritt. Now on to the polishing, for about an hour, and still lots of little scratches when held in front of bright light. Come to find out, the old owner re-did the lenses, and clear coated over the little scratches he made on the outside of the lense. The clearcoat hides them. He did a great job on the clearcoat, I couldn't tell that it was re-done. Sanded the outside, and now I can continue, OH BOY

WOW so much sanding... lol Can't wait to see the finished product. What happens if the chrome inside the light gets too thin, can you 'rechrome' it somehow?

4 lights for bruce.jpgNot much can be done with the back of the lights, mostly tops and bottoms need repair. Chrome Brite is only made in 3" widths. I got some stuff in an 8" width. Plastic can be re-chromed, but finding where to get it done, and cost is a lot. The back part on the 96 lsc's can be cleaned/shined very carefully. When i'm done they come out very nice. here's a pic of the last ones I did

Here the pieces all cut to replace bad chrome. Not shiney, it has a protective clear film on it that gets removed after installed. It took a few hours to mark and cut them.

Very impressive, Tony. You have one of the strangest hobbies I know. :)

Keep up the good work.
