I saw a post ( I wont say where the post was....except to say I cant post there cuz I was BANNED) where someone asked if AAA membership is really worth the cost.

I can tell you this. If you ever need your car towed, its well worth it and will pay for itself. There was one time where I probably wouldnt have towed if I didnt have AAA, but since I did I had it towed, and save the engine.

Also, AAA has the cheapest insurance I have ever found! Last summer I called around to compare and found AAA to be 30% cheaper then anyone else.

So, yes, well worth the money.

I don't know about insurance but AAA road service is great.

I've had flats fixed, unlocked cars, towed and gas.

so far ive had one of my friends door unlocked via the AAA locksmith and had my car towed about 20-30 times during my hydrolock saga. well worth the minimal fee.

I used to have it and recently re-applied. When I told them the type of car I had they tripled the price.

It seems the three guys above me have had their cars towed 20-30 times, locked their keys in the doors, had numerous flats, and ran out of gas a bunch of times and they figured I would be the same.

So instead of joining AAA I joined AA instead. It’s one less A to worry about and it’s free. The coffee and donuts aren’t bad if you don’t mind listening to a bunch of drinking stories.

I joined a club called "A". It was ok, only cost me 1/3 the price of TripleA. But they only towed my car 1/3rd of the way home, too.

Dittos to the above. My spares are clunkers and the GOOD car is a MarkVII. God knows I need a responsible towing business handy. I just upgraded my membership to one called 'premiere' since my dues were due. It's around $100 a year but they'll tow up to 300 miles I think, pay for room, spare car and some other stuff I'll probably never use. I've already locked myself out of the Mark half a dozen times in a few months but with the keyless entry didn't have to call AAA. They'll only come out four times a year for free and I've ALWAYS used up all of them. My AAA auto insurance is only two-three hundred bucks a year. Overall, AAA is one of the few services I've been very happy with.

I have Geico road service for $6.00 a year added to my insurance and they are excellent. When Moose had a dead battery in Jan and I was unable to charge it they came within 30 min. and I was up and running!

You should all check the insurance prices. I was astounded by how much cheaper they are.....

The older you get, or the more you travel, the more valuable AAA becomes. I bought membership for my parents 4 years ago as a gift and they've renewed every year. My dad retired and they were planning on doing some travelling.
I personally do not have it and can't justify it...yet. I've had to be towed once in the past 15 years and that poor car had 170k on it. It would be nice to have when you are traveling in unfamiliar territory for some peace of mind.

Well, you never know when you might be towed. My car is in very good shapem, but has been towed twice in a year. Once, cause I swerved to avoid an accident, ran up on the curb a little, and blew out 2 tires...... (what fun) The second time was after a garage forgot to replace coolant after a radiator flush - and the car overheated. Things happen. I can tell you im basically ahead of the game as far as the towing alone is concerned, plus you get a discount n your insurance if you have it through AAA --- add that to the travel benefits and it is a real good deal

I recently upgraded to a 'premiere' membership. I thought this included something called an 86 point inspection but I found out the hard way it includes only 50% of the $89 fee. Anyway, I had it done today since the car is relatively new to me. When I picked it up, the mechanic couldn't wait to tell me that the left front emergency flasher didn't work! Whoa!! Imagine me driving it around in THAT condition. I got nothing about the wear on ball joints, bushings and all the good stuff that's hard to inspect without having it up on a lift. When I dropped it off I complained about braking. He evidently road tested and indicated rotars are warped without even removing the wheels. Too much time was obviosly wasted checking crap like my cigarette lighter instead of driveability issues. In retrospect, the 86 point inspection IMO, isn't worth it and neither is the 'premiere' AAA membership. - Hell, I think I'll print this out and send it to the auto club!

I joined a year ago just before driving form Nebraska to Key West and back. I saved about $5-$10 on every hotel room night on the way down and back and that alone paid for the membership. Even the respoirt we stayed at offered a discount, something like $22/ night for 3 nights that alone paid the $53 for the membership too. Then a few weeks later I had to get towed and it was free and it was a flatbed so that was even nicer.

It's like joining LOD, there are discounts _everywhere_ for AAA members you just have to look for them and take advantage of them.
