Hey Fluffy. There is a member that used Kensun brand HIDs in his Gen1 Mark VIII. I purchased an HID kit from DDM tuning for my 2002 Grand Marquis and honestly was not too impressed with the wiring setup. The terminals are cheap/fragile and I do not like the tiny spade connection setup that plugs in to the factory headlight socket because it is prone to the elements and losing good solid connection. The member that had used the Kensun brand kit though has been on that setup for a few years now with zero issues. That is one kit that I would recommend.

One thing to note, the HIDs for the Mark VIIIs actually began in 1996 with an HID specific housing on the LSC models that was designed to hold the factory Sylvania HID bulbs in place with proper reflectors for the setup and CLEAR housings. If you look at your headlight housings, they are crosshatched. This is not ideal for an HID setup BUT will still show large improvement of light output regardless. So, don't let that stop you.

So you have 2 options:

1) Go online to Kensun and order a low beam kit for your car that is plug an play, and you will be good to go.

2) This is the more difficult option as finding a set of 1996 HID housings is very difficult because a lot of the Gen1 guys have already switched to these housings in order to get the cosmetic upgrade and best light output for their Gen1s. If you find a set of these housings though (they are like gold) you will also need to get ahold of Jay Richmond on Facebook or on here (can't remember his screen name) because he fabricates the adapter rings that are necessary in order to run an aftermarket HID kits in the HID specific housings. The factory bulbs you find on ebay and elsewhere that were used in the Mark VIIIs are all on borrowed time, so most people find it more economical and practical to buy Jay's adapters and get NEW HIDs online. A 9006 style bulb is what you are after whether you choose this option, or option 1 above. If you chose option 1, you will have to live with the crosshatched housing that you currently have BUT you will not need Jay's adapters.

So, as you can see, yes we have found a fix in either scenario.

Good luck!

i was looking into aftermarket lights because my lights right now are yellowed....ive tried the headlight repair kit and tried buffing them and the light output is not any better. and if i went option 2 the bulbs that go in them are the 9006 not the current 9005?

Thanks Fluffy, for bringing up the subject, it was on my list too. About 4 years ago I did the 3M treatment on my headlights. Got them good as new, even clearer, and used the sealer too. But now I'm as foggy as I was back then. Currently,.. my lights show where I am, instead of where I'm going. I'll buff em' again, that's no problem, but I really need more. KStromberg answered my questions on HID, but I'm curious as to why you specified "low beams" instead of high? Since I had this car, high beams are all I use. Trust me,.. no chance of blinding anybody. I'm just wishing to see the darn road.

I've read people have had problems with the car not starting after doing an HID conversion anti theft system doesn't detect them. Fix was a resistor.
I need to replace mine
what is the best option?
