ATF in Oil?

Wondering what your guy's thoughts on adding a little ATF to my oil? I have an occasional sticky lifter or what ever it's called on a SOHC engine and wondering if I add half a qt to my oil to clean it out if it would help? I have read a bunch on the net, just allot of back and forth.

Thoughts?

I just changed my oil again and we will see if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Yes for the TC, I just put the NAPA oil in for a flush oil. That is why I was thinking about adding ATF.

It is important to use 5w-30 on these engines. synthetic is better. I don't think oil and ATF will mix well nor accomplish anything.

Supposed to clean the internals. There are some other product out there as well like B12, Sea Foam, and I think Lucus has some as well.

It's used as a solvent to break up sludge.
I really think breaking up sludge and dropping it into the oil pan is a bad idea
Your sludge collection will end up on your pickup screen, causing a loss in oil pressure. Been there, done that
Best to use the 5w 20 or 5w 30 that it calls for, and just change it, and the oil filter more frequently.
Eventually it will clean itself up, and things can go back to normal

Marvel mystery oil is the best for that type of stuff. It's a light weight high detergent oil. Been around for ages. But I would run 5w30 and change it regularly maybe put a little marvel in for a short time and see what happens

I'm just trying to avoid taking the valve cover of and fixing the lifter correctly. I think I'll try and get a few oil changes in over the next couple hundred miles.

If you are gonna do that, use the Marvel and let it run for about 1000 miles and only change it once.

My grandfather told me about marvel and i would dump it in my gas tank, he said guys would have a tank under the hood and mix it in the carburetor or something like that.

In the old days they had drip systems that would supply a metered dose of marvel to keep the valves/pistons clean

All I found on line was an additive for the fuel and then there air tool oil. I was looking for something that hangs out more in the valve train.
