AXODE Transmission Q's

Hey guys, the tranny in my 1991 Continental bit the dust, so I plan on scrounging around the junk yards this week to find one. Question is, does anyone have any interchange information? I would imagine that one out of a taurus would work as long as it was mated to a 3.8?? Also is the year specific? Any information would be helpful to me.

Thanks!!!

I'm 90% sure a 3.8 Taurus transaxle would work. However, you might be better off getting a rebuild if you're going to keep the car any length of time. 1991 was the first year they added electronic controls to the AXOD, and they made an already crappy tranny even worse. There are a lot of upgraded parts (most notably, a steel forward clutch piston to replace the aluminum piece that breaks all the time) that any half decent rebuilder would use in order to make it hold together a little better.

Eh, I am not trying to keep the POS that long. Maybe I could find a tranny from a 93 or 94. I assume a Windstar tranny would work too, it has the FWD 3.8.
