Belated Bereavement - Sanford M. Block, aka Sandy, aka Cigar Sandy

I spoke with John (oldschool1) from the Mark VII club and owner of PINKIN at Carlisle. I knew Sandy was very sick the last time I heard about him but did not know he passed. John said he made a post here but I can't find it, so below in quotes is what was posted on the Mark VII site.

For the people that have not been around a long time Sandy was one of the original guys here. He provided Alexander a lot of the Mark VIII build information on our web site. He was a one of a kind character and a walking encyclopedia of automotive knowledge. He must have quit the club 100 times but finally moved a few years on after he sold his Mark VIII and got a Town Car

RIP Sandy

Myself, Sandy's son Matt, Sandy, Norm (redn8), circa 2000

Sanford M. Block, 65, of Bloomfield died July 5, 2012. Born in Newark, he lived in Maplewood for 38 years before moving to Bloomfield in 1984.

An avid car collector, Mr. Block spent his working life in the retail automobile business at Livingston Dodge and later at Maplewood Dodge. He also owned the Olympic Motor Car Company in Irvington. He penned an award-winning softcover book dedicated to the Chrysler Imperial automobile. He was a recipient of the Dodge Delta Sales Award for excellence in consumer satisfaction and was a member of Chrysler Corporation’s Professional Sales Association.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, and his son, Matthew of Bloomfield.

Services were held July 8 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Foundation

Sandy was instrumental in the beginnings of LOD and the SquareBirds. Though I never knew him, I certainly knew of him.

RIP

I also remember Sandy from the old days. He was a wealth of knowledge and I always enjoyed reading his posts. I'm glad I was able to meet him. I remember the pic Steve posted and if I remember correctly we all had pizza and beer that afternoon. Sandy was a great host and I will truly miss him.RIP Sandy!

yes, we all went out for Pizza and you picked up the tab, that is back in the day when you were a big corporate big shot. I wonder what Sandy did with is ASC, i may have seen one at carlisle, it was white convertible with red interior. He said he was getting that one to drive (not), the Blue convertible was not even dealer prepped.

Thanks steve for the reminder and lesson in the history of LOD because fact is, Sandy certainly was and still is a cornerstone of this club.

Most importantly
R.I.P. Sandy

RIP Sandy. I can't count how often I spoke to him it was so many times, he was a good guy, eccentric to the extreme which is what made him a true character. He also collected Mustang McLarens, a rather rare but under appreciated vehicle. The omly mileage one of them ever got was it's annual trip to the station for the State inspection.

I had spoken to him several times many years ago, he gave me great cigar advice when I was just starting out on them, and I think about him every time I light one up. He also have invaluable advice on keeping my interior clean, i still have it written down somewhere on my old computer. I was wondering how he was since i knew he didn't post here any more, this news shocks and saddens me. RIP my friend, i will light a Cohiba just for you.

I loved reading Sandy's posts back in the day. I think I recall reading of his passing at the time, but it's nice to see this post anyway.

Sad that we have lost so many good folks that we need this forum now. Glad that the club lasted this long, though.
