Blower Motor Speed Control

This has been bugging me for awhile but since I rarely drive the wife's 2006 Town Car, it hasn't demanded much attention.

The blower motor only works on high. I drove it yesterday and realized it is a PITA with it being on high all the time. Today, I attempted an EATC diagnostic but to no avail. :(

I've always said the wife only needs max heat or max AC, so I guess it doesn't really bother her. :D

Looking at AllData, the blower motor speed control is in the engine compartment behind the engine next to the evaporator housing. Not the easiest place for access, so I thought I would post here for any encouragement, experience, tips or diagnostic help. I refuse to pay the dealer to look into this.

And does anyone know why the EATC would not do a self diagnostic? Could it be the EATC is at fault? Again, looking at AllData, the symptoms point to the blower motor speed control but the last line in the troubleshooting procedure is to replace the EATC.

Do not know about Town Car ETACs specifically, however, usually it is a resistor pack that goes bad on (or near) the blower. It defaults to wide open. The various resistors slow down the power to the blower. They are sometimes mounted inside the ducts to help cool them gown.

From what I understand a somewhat easy part to change but hard to find a decent price on them.

i've noticed on my 95 that the blower 'has to think about it', and generally will only kick on after going from high to off and back a few times , then it will run at any setting

most likely it is... there are times , quiet times rollin thru town , even when the fan is off , i hear this weird howling from the dash ....... almost sounds like wet , rusted brakes.... weird.....just one note in the symphony .... thank god for jvc and pioneer.

looks like half the heater from the part car will end up in one car, and the other half in the other
